Wendy’s lips curved into a gentle smile. “I’m still here.”

Stanley’s voice was tinged with worry. “But will you leave? When can’t see you, I get scared you might take Bella and abandon

me.”

Wendy said nothing

Stanley pressed on, his voice raw with emotion.

“I know you want to stay away from me right now. You don’t want me to suffer the pain of the Heartchain Curse. But more than the pain of the curse, I’m afraid of losing you and Bella. No matter what troubles come our way, we’ll face them together. Please don’t give up on me. Don’t leave me again. We’ve wasted three years–I don’t want to lose you and Bella for another three years, or even longer.”

Hearing his heartfelt confession, Wendy lifted her hand and placed it against the door. She longed to see him, but for his own sake, they could only speak through the door.

Her red lips lifted in a soft smile. “I promise that I won’t leave you.”

No matter what impossible challenges lay ahead, as long as they faced them side by side, there was no doubt they could overcome anything.

Stanley’s thin lips curled into a faint smile. “That’s all I want to hear.”

Outside the door, Horace and Brittany watched their connection with warmth.

Horace stepped forward. “We share responsibility for this Heartchain Curse. Wendy is our goddaughter now. Don’t worry–we’ll help both of you.”

Stanley blinked, surprised to learn that Horace and Brittany had taken Wendy in as their goddaughter. “What? Wendy’s your…“, Brittany chuckled. “We like Wendy a lot, so we made her our goddaughter. We’re even planning a big party to announce her status. From now on, we’ll take good care of her.”

Stanley smiled, feeling a deep happiness. He knew Horace and Brittany would be great parents to Wendy. To have two more people who loved her was something he fully welcomed.

Horace patted Stanley on the shoulder. “I never thought that after all this time, you’d still end up as my son–in–law.”

Horace suddenly remembered something. “But didn’t you once say you’d never marry a daughter from the Larson family-‘

“Stop!” Stanley quickly cut him off, finally understanding how he had shot himself in the foot. “I’m glad to be your son–in–law.

Stanley had just called himself Horace and Brittany’s son–in–law.

Inside the room, Wendy laughed quietly to herself. If it weren’t for the Heartchain Curse, she and Stanley would have been

married by now.

Horace grinned. “You’re getting a little ahead of yourself. You’ll be our son–in–law once you’ve officially registered your marriage with Wendy.”

Brittany nodded in agreement. “Wendy calls the shots. You’ll have to get through her first.”

The mood was light and easy, but suddenly Stanley’s face went pale. A sharp pain started pounding in his head again.

“Stanley!” Horace caught him to keep him steady.

Inside, Wendy sensed his distress and anxiously called out, “Stanley, are you okay?”

Stanley shook his head. “I’m fine.”
