Chapter 837

Halsey soon arrived at the GM Tech building.

It was her first time at Shaun’s company. The towering skyscrapersoared into the clouds, impressive and commanding.

Right now, the only person Halsey could think of was Shaun. He was the only one she wanted to lean on.

She hurried inside the building. The receptionist looked up and asked, “Hello, how can I help you?”

Halsey replied, “Hi, I’m here to see Mr. Lane. Is he in?”

The receptionist frowned. “You’re here for Mr. Lane? Do you have an appointment? He only meets with people who have scheduled in advance.”

Halsey hesitated. “I don’t have an appointment.”

“I’m sorry, but without an appointment, you can’t see Mr. Lane.”

Halsey’s eyes darted anxiously. “Then I’ll just call him now.”

She pulled out her phone and dialed Shaun’s number. The ringtone echoed softly, again and again, but no one answered.

What was going on? Why wasn’t he picking up her calls?

Determined, Halsey tried a few more times, but the result was the same. Shaun didn’t answer.

She silently prayed for Shaun to pick up the phone.

With no luck on the calls, Halsey turned to the receptionist, hoping for help. “I actually know Mr. Lane personally. I’m his friend. He isn’t answering his phone, so could you please let him know I’m here? I’m sure he’d want to see me.”

The receptionist shook her head firmly. “Sorry, miss, but many people want to see Mr. Lane every day. We hear the same story from a lot of visitors—so many that we’re just tired of it.”

“I’m not lying! I really know him personally!”

Just then, a familiar voice came from behind. “What’s going on here?”

Halsey turned and saw someone she recognized–Chelsea.

Though Halsey had never spoken to Chelsea, women had a way of remembering each other without words. She recognized the woman who was close to Shaun right away.

The receptionist’s attitude instantly changed, now warm and flattering. “Ms. Sutton, what a surprise! What brings you here?”

Chelsea smiled. “I’m here to see Shaun.”

The receptionist replied, “Sure. I’ll take you upstairs. Mr. Lane is in his office.”

Chelsea glanced at Halsey. “Ms. Mallin, hello.”

Halsey answered, “Ms. Sutton, hello.”

Chelsea stepped forward. “Are you here to see Shaun?”

Halsey nodded. “Yes.”

Chelsea gave a faint, knowing smile. “But I’m not sure he wants to see you. Some things and some people are better left in the past. Shaun has moved on, with a new relationship and a new life. I don’t think he wants to be disturbed.”
