Chapter 891
Warren walked up to Shaun.
Just then, Chelsea also came out. “Shaun, what are you doing out here?”
Shaun looked at Chelsea, his voice warm. “You’ve been gone a while. I got worried, so I came to check on you.”
Warren grinned and teased, “Sounds like Shaun really cares about you.”
Chelsea’s cheeks flushed with happiness. “Don’t tease us. Let’s head back.”
“Alright.”
Shaun walked off with Chelsea and Warren, brushing right past Halsey without a word or glance.
Halsey stood frozen in place. Now, she and Shaun were nothing more than strangers who once knew everything about each other.
She leaned against the wall as her eyes slowly turned red. No matter how hard she tried to hold it in, hot, glistening tears still slid down her cheeks.
Losing Shaun hurt more than she had ever expected.
Halsey went home and immediately curled up in bed. Ever since she got pregnant, she had been sleeping a lot more.
As planned, she had already gone to Calvin’s school to complete her enrollment paperwork. She would be starting her courses soon.
But then she got a call from Madeline. Her voice on the phone was weak and faint. “Hey, Halsey. I’m sick.”
Halsey jumped up, alarmed. “You’re sick? Have you seen a doctor?”
“I have a fever. A high one, 105 degrees. I’m resting in my dorm right now.”
Madeline was working in a sealed research facility that had medical professionals on-site.
Still, a fever that high was dangerous. Halsey couldn’t help but worry-what if it affected her brain?

“Alright. I’ll tell the security guard to let you in.”
After hanging up, Halsey packed a few clothes, then caught a ride straight to the research base.
She arrived half an hour later. A guard led her to one of the dorm rooms. “This is Maddy’s room.”
“Thanks a lot.”
Halsey knocked on the door. Madeline opened it shortly after. “You got here fast.”
Halsey immediately reached out to steady her and touched her forehead. “You’re still burning up. Didn’t the doctor check on you?”
“He did. Gave me some meds, too. But fevers like this take time. They come and go.”
“Alright, let’s get you back in bed. I’ll take care of you for the next few days.”
