Chapter 936

Shaun was still ready to throw another punch.

Halsey threw her arms around him. “That’s enough, Shaun! Stop!”

Feeling her soft body pressed against him, Shaun finally paused, but the rage in his eyes didn’t fade at all. Instead, he gave Gilbert, who was still on the ground, one last hard kick.

Just then, Wendy came rushing over. “What happened here?”

Halsey looked at her apologetically. “I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to cause any trouble.”

Shaun took one last glance at Gilbert, then grabbed Halsey’s hand and led her away without another word.

Halsey turned back slightly. “Bye, Wendy!”

As soon as she spoke, Shaun wrapped his arms around her head and pulled her close to his chest, stopping her from looking back again.

Shaun walked her out of the hospital, opened the front passenger door, and gently but firmly guided her into the seat. Then he circled and got into the driver’s seat.

That was when Halsey noticed his hand was bleeding. His knuckles were scraped and red.

She quickly reached out and grabbed his hand. “You’re hurt. Let me help you clean this up.”

But Shaun raised his hand, keeping it just out of her reach.

Halsey froze. His face-so handsome and sharp-was tense. His chest was still heaving slightly. He was clearly still upset.

She asked quickly, “Why are you here at the hospital? I thought you left.”

Shaun replied calmly, “I didn’t leave. I was waiting downstairs.”

What?

He had been waiting for her this whole time?

Shaun looked up at her, his eyes dark. “I was waiting, and then I saw Gilbert’s car pull up. He came in, so I followed. And then I saw the two of you wrapped up together.”

Halsey’s eyes widened; she wondered whether he got the wrong idea.

She sat up straighter. “What are you trying to say? Did you misunderstand something? I had no idea Gilbert would be at the hospital today! We ran into each other by accident. I didn’t even say much to him-”

A low, hoarse laugh slipped from Shaun’s throat. “Can I really trust you?”

He looked her straight in the eyes, like he was trying to see straight through her. His stare was intense and sharp, demanding an

answer.

Halsey nodded right away. “Of course, you can trust me. I’m telling the truth. I didn’t know Gilbert would be there—”

Shaun cut her off. “You didn’t know why Gilbert came…but what about you? Why were you at the hospital?”

Halsey froze.

Right then, she realized just how observant Shaun really was. He must have been suspicious the moment she said she came to visit Wendy. He just didn’t say anything.
