Chapter 949
Halsey froze. “What are you talking about? Abort our baby?”
Shaun let out a cold laugh. “Isn’t that what you were trying to do?”
She grabbed his sleeve in a panic. “Listen to me! I have to tell you something-someone took me to the hospital today. They were trying to hurt our baby. It was-”
Before she could say their names, Shaun cut her off. He looked at her, his smile bitter.
“Are you really trying to lie to me again?”
Halsey threw off the blanket and stepped out of bed. “Again? What exactly did I lie about?”
“Oh, I don’t know,” Shaun said sharply. “Did someone really force you to the hospital? Or did you go there yourself? Was someone else trying to harm the baby, or was it you who didn’t want the baby in the first place?”
Halsey blinked, stunned. “I didn’t want the baby? What are you even talking about? I don’t understand.”
“Enough! How long are you going to keep pretending? You went to the hospital yourself. You didn’t want this baby. You
scheduled an abortion.”
Halsey’s breath caught. She was there for an abortion? She didn’t want the baby?
“If I hadn’t gotten there in time and pulled you off that operating table,” Shaun pressed on, “the baby would be gone right now!”
He gripped her shoulders, his fingers digging in, his knuckles pale with pressure.
“How could you be so heartless? Isn’t this your child, too?”
Halsey was dazed. “I never said I didn’t want the baby. I—”
“You’re so cruel. You never intended to tell me you were pregnant. Did you ever stop to think how unfair that is to me? I’m the father! I had a right to know!”
Halsey stood there, stunned, trying to process his words. “You really believe I went there on my own? Who told you that?”
“Does it matter who told me? The doctor said so. And the hospital records back it up!”
Halsey’s expression turned icy. Now, she understood-it was Gilbert and Chelsea again. Their scheming never stopped. They were like shadows she couldn’t escape from.
They tried to take her baby, but when Shaun showed up and ruined their plan, they twisted everything to frame her instead. It was obvious they wanted to drive a wedge between her and Shaun.
Halsey looked Shaun straight in the eyes. “Shaun, tell me something. Do you still think I got together with Gilbert three years ago? Do you really think I was the one who arranged for your face to be ruined?”
Shaun’s face darkened. “Wasn’t it?”
Halsey was speechless.
Then, she let out a bitter laugh. So the lies and manipulations had started long ago. Gilbert and Chelsea had been at it from the very beginning.
“I don’t care if you believe me or not,” she said. “I never hurt you. And I would never hurt our child.”
“Then have the baby.”
Shaun’s voice was firm. That was what he wanted.
