Chapter 100

Third Person’s POV

Finished

Attwater blocked Cassian with a fierce glare, then instantly turned to Trista with an expression of fierce protectiveness. Mom and Dad sent me down to get you.”

Trista ignored Cassian completely and handed her suitcase to Attwater. Let’s go.

Attwater grabbed the bag with one hand and hooked her arm with the other. They walked sidebyside toward the building entrance.

Cassian stood motionless, his hand, suspended in the air, slowly dropping.

He watched them walk through the community gate, as if blocked by an invisible threshold.

Seeing Cassian’s distracted look, Samantha turned and walked away.

As long as Cassian kept Algernon’s parentage a secret, the rift between him and Trista would remain, and she would always have an opening.

At the same time, after dinner, Trista was washing dishes in the kitchen, chatting

Trista, your phone.

Attwater handed Trista her phone. Trista glanced at the unfamiliar caller ID.

Hesitating, Trista dried her hands and stepped into the living room to answer.

Hearing Samantha’s voice on the other end, Trista frowned.

She hung up, excused herself to take out the trash, and walked to the building

Seeing Trista, Samantha stepped forward eagerly. Ms. Holmes, Cassian told came to see you.

Samantha held out a box of holiday pastries and a fruit basket to Trista.

A flicker of sarcasm crossed Trista’s lips. She didn’t take the items.

Cassian could ignore her for a month for Samantha’s sake, with no explanation.

Now that she was back, Cassian couldn’t wait to notify Samantha.

That was true love.

Trista composed herself. I won’t take the gifts. Just tell me what you want.”

e you were back. I specially

The two stood facing each other by the roadside. Samantha placed the items aside.

Samantha stared at Trista’s overly beautiful, delicate face, a flash of jealousy in her eyes. Ms. Holmes, you came back to spend the holidays with your family, right? When do you plan to leave?

Their eyes met. Trista frowned. Why I return, and when I leave, is none of your business. If you continue to beat around the bush, I’m leaving.

Seeing Trista try to walk away, Samantha took a step to block her. Ms. Holmes, I know you’re upset about Cassian and me getting back together. But playing games like this will only make Cassian dislike you more.

Trista pursed her lips, offering no response.

Birds of a feather.

Both Cassian and Samantha were so selfrighteous.

Samantha pressed on. You let Algernon and me live in your house and kindly remodeled it; you left the termination agreement and the bank card; you deliberately gave me your wedding ringyou weren’t trying to help us. You were retreating to advance, trying to provoke Cassian and force him to come back. Am I right?

Trista suppressed the turmoil inside her and retorted. Samantha, what you should be doing is whispering into Cassian’s ear to get him to divorce me, so you and Algernon can move in legitimately. Don’t waste your time on me.”

If this were her old self, she would have slapped Samantha or at least yelled until she felt better.

But the downfall of the Silverlight pack, coupled with three years of emotionless marriage to Cassian, had stripped away her sharp edges.

The willful, pampered daughter of the Silverlight Alpha was gone.

The current Trista was scarred, sensitive, and emotionally worn down.

Samantha stood before Trista, inexplicably feeling a moment of inferiority.

She deliberately raised her chin, trying to appear dignified and proper.

She provoked Trista. Cassian is a man of great responsibility. He won’t divorce you partly because of the elders and partly because he pities you.

Samantha sighed. I understand Cassian’s dilemma, and I won’t force him to divorce you. After all, the person Cassian loves is me. His heart has always belonged to me and Algernon. All he can give you is the continuation of the mating in name only.”

The hell you are!

Attwater burst out from nowhere and kicked Samantha into the street.

Ah!
