The Heartbroken Luna's Choice Banish Love novel Chapter 116

Third Person’s POV

Three days later, in the afternoon, Trista prepared to head back to France.

Despite having rested for a few days, she still looked terrible.

Finished

The faint dark circles under her eyes were impossible to hide, and she seemed physically drained, as if even standing required effort.

Attwater had already returned to school.

Trista urged her parents to go back, trying to keep her tone light. Don’t worry, Mom and Dad. Xander’s car will be here any minute.”

Ulva and Randolph gave her a dozen more reminders before finally turning back into the building.

Trista stood by the roadside, messaging Xander.

As she looked up, she saw Cassian stepping out of his car, and her face immediately soured.

They hadn’t seen each other in three days, and Cassian looked visibly haggard as well.

His Adam’s apple protruded beneath his collar, and a layer of exhaustion sat beneath the shadows in his

eyes.

He walked toward Trista with heavy steps, reaching out for her suitcase. I’ll take you to the airport.”

Trista pulled the suitcase back, avoiding his reach.

She wasn’t a dense wolf; she had simply been willing to believe in the past. Now, she finally understood.

When the Silverlight pack fell into ruin, Cassian chose to mate with her because she was easy to control and

easy to manage.

All these years, he had been waiting for his beloved shewolf to return.

He gave her the position of Luna Trista merely to act as a shield for his dignityto maintain the outward order the Ironthorn pack demanded.

Cassian’s eyes flickered with a complex emotion as he stepped forward to grab her hand.

Trista dodged him again, pulling her suitcase to the curb, her spine rigid as she defended her final boundary.

A black luxury SUV pulled up smoothly. Xander stepped out, his movements crisp and efficient.

The driver loaded Trista’s luggage into the trunk while Xander opened the back door for her.

Just as Trista was about to get in, Cassian caught her wrist.

The crimson in his eyes surged, and his alpha aura spiraled out of balance, making the air feel tight.

He asked coldly, Why are you getting into his car?

Trista looked back at him, her gaze so calm it was nearly freezing.

She shook off his hand without hesitation and got into the car.

Xander adjusted his glasses with a single finger, his tone polite but firm. Alpha Cassian, please don’t misunderstand. Trista and I are colleagues. I’m simply looking after her. Our relationship is not what you

think.

Xander’s casual remark felt like a needle pricking Cassian’s heart.

The pain was slight, but terrifyingly preciseit felt like a memory where he had used the exact same phrase, simply looking after her,” while stepping deeper over the line.

Cassian instinctively frowned, yet maintained his composure, reaching out to shake Xander’s hand. Thank you for looking after Trista.

Xander’s smile was warm and his manners impeccable, like a wellbred gentleman. Alpha Cassian, you’re too kind. Trista is a junior from my school, after all. It’s only right that I look after her.

Cassian and Xander lived in the same city and were both Alphas of powerful packs; naturally, they knew each other.

What truly bothered Cassian wasn’t Xander’s politeness, but Trista’s silence inside the carshe looked like she was behind a wall of glass, making even his proximity feel like a trespass.

Cassian stood outside, his eyes fixed on Trista in the back seat.

The mating bond was like a thin thread pulling at his chest, tethering him to her but giving him no way to reach her.

He hesitated for a moment, then reached out to close the door for her, his voice dropping into a tender tone. Message me when the flight lands.

He spoke as if no rupture had ever occurred between themas if softening his voice could call her back to her original place.

Trista simply raised a hand to tuck her hair behind her ear, giving Cassian no response at all.

She knew Cassian was obsessed with propriety; he wouldn’t do anything unseemly in front of Xander.

But she also knew that propriety wasn’t loveit was just the mask the Ironthorn heir had worn for too long.

Cassian’s complex gaze lingered on her for a few more seconds before he finally pulled back.

Xander exchanged a few more pleasantries and drove away.

The black SUV merged into the traffic and soon disappeared.

Cassian remained where he was, unable to look away.
