Third Person’s POV
Finished
Cassian had just finished the interview. Before he even had a chance to loosen his watch strap, his phone buzzed with a call from Samantha.
At ten in the morning, they met at a coffee shop.
The shop wasn’t crowded. The scent of coffee beans and pastries masked the pheromones of the patrons, yet it couldn’t hide the natural presence Cassian brought the moment he walked in.
Before sitting down, Cassian scanned the room. “You said Algernon was crying for me. Where is he?”
Samantha looked down guiltily, her fingers twisting the strap of her bag. Her voice was soft and pleading. “I’m so sorry, Cassian. I got the days mixed up. Algernon has a class today; I just dropped him off.”
Cassian looked at her, his brow furrowing involuntarily.
His displeasure didn’t erupt into a full display of aura, but the air around the table seemed to drop several degrees.
Seeing that Cassian made no move to sit, Samantha explained hurriedly, “Cassian, I know meeting privately like this can cause misunderstandings. I booked a private room on the second floor. I have some things I need to talk to you about alone.”
Cassian hesitated for a moment, then followed her upstairs.
The waiter served the coffee and exited, gently clicking the door shut.
The moment the lock engaged, the room felt like an isolated little territory. The noise from outside was cut off, leaving only the sound of their breathing and the clinking of china.
“Cassian, I won’t lie to you,” Samantha began, her tone level. “My brother and his mate were afraid that Algernon and I would hold them back. They’ve already bought a house and moved away from LA. They left my mother here. I need to take care of her.”
Cassian’s expression grew colder, as if he were hearing about another mess he despised.
He didn’t ask for details, only the crucial point. “Where are you staying now?”
Samantha bit her lip, appearing to endure a moment of shame. “I’ve been staying in a motel with my mother and Algernon for the past two days. But don’t worry, I’ve already looked at a

Cassian was silent for a few seconds, weighing the situation.

Finished.
Finally, he reached into his jacket, pulled out a card, and handed it to her. His tone was restrained but held the commanding weight of an Alpha. “Take this. Buy a house in your name. It’ll be more stable that way.”
Samantha shook her head almost immediately, refusing him flatly. “Cassian, your mother was right. You and Trista are still mated. Using your money wouldn’t be right, and it wouldn’t be fair to her.”
She paused, her eyes growing intentionally submissive. “I’ve already signed with an MCN agency. I start work in a couple of days. I’ll take care of Algernon myself. I’ll try my best not to cause you any more trouble.”
Cassian’s complex gaze was fixed on her.
He didn’t take the card back, nor did he speak, as if waiting for her to reveal what she truly wanted.
Finally, Samantha steered the conversation to her target. Her voice was light, as if afraid of breaking something. “You’ve helped us so much. I can’t just stand by and watch you and Trista actually dissolve your mating. If that happens, I’d be the one to blame.”
Cassian’s stiff features slowly relaxed. The taut wire in his chest seemed to loosen slightly.
He felt a strange sense of relief, and his voice softened. “Samantha, this isn’t your fault.”
Hearing this, Samantha’s eyes instantly reddened, looking like someone who had been wronged but refused to lose her composure.
She shook her head and said earnestly, “I can’t help but feel responsible. All of this started because of me. I want to help you two, but I truly don’t know what to do.”
Cassian’s gaze was unreadable.
He remained silent for a moment, pushing his emotions back down before speaking. “You don’t need to do anything. I will handle the issues between Trista and me.”
Samantha nodded obediently, cupping her coffee as if finally finding some peace.
She paused for a moment. “Cassian, my brother has abandoned us. After being abroad for all those years, I have no one to rely on here in LA.”
She looked up at him, eyes brimming with tears, her timing perfect. “I only hope that, for the sake of our past, if I ever face a crisis I can’t handle alone… you’ll give us a hand. That’s all I ask.”
