Cassian didn’t respond to her immediately.

His gaze was fixed on Ulva and Randolph. In their eyes, there was no explosive rage–only a cold, dead disappointment.
That kind of silence was far more humiliating than any threat.
“I’m here. They won’t do anything to you,” Cassian said, before reaching down and peeling Samantha’s hand off his arm.
His movement wasn’t rough, but it was as definitive as a boundary line. “Go home now.”
Samantha’s fingers froze in mid–air, her face turning a shade paler.
She wanted to say more, but the sudden detachment in Cassian’s eyes silenced her. She could only stand there and watch him walk toward Trista’s parents.
Cassian caught up to them, reaching out to help with their bags, his voice low. “Let me give you a ride.”
Randolph didn’t even grant him a second glance, his tone like granite. “No, thanks.”
Trista’s parents continued to hold hands, waiting for the light to change.
Cassian stood to the side, no longer insisting, no longer explaining.
He just watched those two clasped hands. His chest felt heavy, as if a dull weight were crushing the air out of his lungs.
Samantha, feeling uneasy, followed them. Her voice was a tiny whisper, as if afraid to startle a predator. “Cassian… did Trista’s family misunderstand again?”
The words had barely left her mouth when a black luxury car pulled smoothly to the curb.
The doors opened, and Alaina and Wynn stepped out.
Alaina moved quickly. The aura of a mature alpha she–wolf spread naturally with her first step -cold and orderly, like an invisible net dropping over the street.
She went straight to Ulva and Randolph, immediately lowering her posture, her voice gentle. “What a coincidence–let me take you home.”

Ulva looked back at Cassian, then at Samantha.
She didn’t argue. “That won’t be necessary, Mrs. Holmes.”
With that, the two crossed the street together.

They would rather walk than accept a single shred of “decency” from Ironthorn ever again.
Watching this, Wynn’s chest tightened with fury.
Watching this, Wynn’s chest tightened with fury. She turned and caught sight of Samantha beside Cassian. Fire flared in her eyes, and her voice came out sharp, like the lethal snap of a wolf’s jaws. “Mom–did you see that? He’s actually keeping that stray omega by his side right in front of Luna Trista’s family.”
At the word “stray,” Samantha’s face went white. She took an involuntary step back. “Al–Alaina
Alaina didn’t raise a hand.
She simply stopped, tilted her head slightly, and looked at Samantha.
In that instant, something dropped from her gaze–pure Alpha authority. It wasn’t an emotion; it was a verdict.
The air grew heavy.
Samantha’s breathing hitched, her body reacting faster than her brain. Her shoulders hunched instinctively, as if an invisible set of fangs had clamped onto the back of her neck.
In her panic, her pheromones leaked a cloyingly sweet scent of a plea for help, trying to find a crack to hide in-
But the moment the scent surfaced, it was crushed by Alaina’s colder, stronger presence.
Like a tide extinguishing a spark, leaving no room for an echo.
Samantha’s knees buckled. She nearly collapsed on the spot.
Desperately trying to steady herself, she leaned toward Cassian, grabbing him like a shield against the crushing aura.
Cassian instinctively stepped in front of her. “Mom, what are you doing?”
Alaina looked at him. There was no shouting in her eyes, only a heartbreaking disappointment.
“I am reminding her,” Alaina’s voice was terrifyingly calm, “that this is not a place where just any
