Chapter 202
Third Person’s POV
Wilmot was shaking with pure rage, his finger nearly poking Cassian’s nose as lie roared, “You’re the Alpha of Ironthorn, for god’s sake! And yet
you’re willing to flush your entire reputation down the toilet for a rogue? You are absolutely beyond
Cassian stood in the center of the hall, his face a mask of stone. “You can scream at me all you want, but Samantha was dragged into this. She’s innocent.”
Samantha huddled closer to Cassian, her eyes darting around the room, her heart hammering so hard it felt like it would crack her ribs.
She knew the stakes–now that they were at Howard’s estate, she had to play her cards right. This was her one shot to force these elders to acknowledge her.
Gathering what little courage she had, Samantha edged forward a few steps until she was standing before Howard.
She put on her best “martyr” face. “Howard, even if you’re going to punish me, please… at least let me speak.”
Before anyone could shut her down, she rushed to explain. “I was an invited guest of Miss Poole. I only went to the Shadowfang gala as a guest–I had no idea Alpha Cassian and Luna Trista would even be there.”
“You lying little tramp! You actually have the nerve to stand there and play victim?”
Wynn couldn’t take it anymore. She stormed out from the back of the room, pointing a finger at Samantha’s face. “You snuck into Cassian’s private room and had the audacity to put on Luna Trista’s ritual dress! Everyone saw you! How are you going to lie your way out of that?”
Samantha’s face went from pale to flushed and back again. She dropped her voice into a submissive whine. “I’m not lying. My clothes got ruined by accident. Cassian just didn’t want me to lose my dignity, so he took me to the suite to change into something of Luna Trista’s.”
Before she could finish her sob story, Alaina was already in Cassian’s face.
As the former Luna, her maternal aura was so heavy it practically turned the air to lead.
Her voice was deathly cold. “Cassian, do you even remember whose name is branded on your soul as your mate?”
Cassian’s dark eyes shifted to Trista.
His chest heaved as he fought to suppress his restless wolf, but his voice remained steady. “Of course I
remember.”
Trista stood off to the side, her face an unreadable mask, but a flicker of cold mockery touched the corner of her mouth.
In a room reeking this badly of betrayal, he still had the Alpha audacity to stand there and spout such high- and–mighty nonsense.

Chapter 202
Suddenly, a violent slap shattered the silence of the main hall,
Alaina didn’t hold back; the blow wasn’t just physical–it carried the crushing weight of her high ranking bloodline.
Cassian’s head snapped to the side, a bright red handprint blooming on his cheek.
Samantha let out a strangled, high–pitched whimper and moved to step in, but Alaina cut her down with a single, lethal glare.
It was the look of a true sovereign dealing with a stray; Samantha’s knees went weak, and she was pinned to the spot by the sheer pressure of Alaina’s aura.
Alaina glared at her son, her eyes burning with pure disappointment. “If you know you’re mated, how dare you spit on that contract so publicly? Bringing another she–wolf into your private sanctuary? Letting her desecrate your Luna’s personal clothes? Cassian, what exactly is Trista to you in this pack? Just an omega you can trample whenever you feel like it?”
Cassian took the hit without flinching, though a trickle of blood leaked from the corner of his mouth.
He didn’t seem to feel the pain; his eyes were like a hawk’s, locked onto Trista.
He was hunting for a reaction–any sign of jealousy, any spark of rage.
His throat moved as he spoke, his voice raspy. “It’s just a dress, Mom. You’re overthinking a minor detail.”
Seeing her opening, Samantha threw herself onto the floor in a pathetic display of submission, acting like a groveling dog to trigger Cassian’s protective instincts.
“I’m so sorry… I never meant for Luna Trista to misunderstand. If you think my scent ruined this place, then take it out on me. Don’t blame Cassian.”
Alaina’s backhand sent Samantha sprawling across the floor.
Samantha clutched her swelling face, stumbling back several steps as blood began to seep through her fingers.
