Chapter 213
Third Person’s POV
Cassian’s grip on her throat tightened, his strength terrifying. “Samantha, you don’t have the leverage to play these pathetic games with me. Don’t even try it.”
Samantha saw the wall of suspicion in his eyes and broke down, sobbing for mercy. “Cassian, you know me! I have no family backing me, I’m a divorcee, I’ve had miscarriages… even if you killed me, I wouldn’t dare have the same delusions I had six years ago!”
Cassian’s face remained deathly dark.
Her legs went weak from the sheer biological pressure of his aura, and she collapsed to her knees.
“I was just trying to suck up to your mate! I’m tired of being a target for your family. I didn’t mean anything else by it, I swear!”
When Cassian continued to stare her down with those cold, predatory eyes, Samantha raised her hand to give a formal vow. “Cassian, I swear to the Moon Goddess on my child’s life–if I have any hidden motives, let my son suffer the worst fate imaginable. Let his soul never reach the Sacred Mountain!”
Only then did Cassian slowly let go. Samantha scrambled into the corner, trembling.
In reality, the only reason she kept Algernon around was to serve as a constant reminder of how much she’d “suffered” for Cassian over the last six years. She needed him to feel guilty for the rest of his life. If not for that, she would have gotten rid of that “dead weight” kid a long time ago.
Cassian calmly adjusted his cufflinks, returning to his usual untouchable, high–and–mighty self. “The only reason I claimed Algernon was to keep Howard off your back,” he said, his voice like dry ice. “I’m giving you a place to exist in L.A. That’s it.”
Samantha nodded frantically, her face pale.
“I’m helping you because of what you sacrificed for me in the past,” Cassian added. “This is your last shot.”
He leaned in, his gaze piercing.
“I’ll keep my promises. But that’s only if you stay in your lane. Do not challenge my Luna’s position. Ever.”
With that, he turned and walked out.
Samantha stayed on the floor, paralyzed. Only when the door clicked shut did she completely collapse.
“Yeah,” she thought, “choosing to team up with Trista was definitely the right move.”
One day, she’d be the one standing next to Cassian legally. She’d replace Trista and become the only she- wolf running Ironthorn.
Around 9:00 PM, Cassian was waiting at the curb of the apartment building where Trista’s parents lived.
When he saw her walk out of the elevator lobby, he crushed his cigarette under his boot.

He stepped forward and pulled her into a tight embrace, adjusting her coat with practiced care. He wrapped his Alpha aura around her like a heavy blanket.
He leaned down, his voice raspy and low. “You cold?”
Smelling the mix of tobacco and that “expensive liquor” scent of his pheromones made Trista’s skin crawl.
She looked up and caught three pairs of eyes watching them from the window above.
She got it instantly. This “loving” hug wasn’t for her–it was a performance for her parents and brother. He wanted them to think their bond was still rock–solid.
Trista pushed him away, her expression blank.
“The Silverlight Pack is a ghost,” she said flatly. “We’re nothing compared to Ironthorn. Even if you killed me right now, my family wouldn’t have the power to take down a lead Alpha like you. You can stop the ‘devoted husband‘ act. They can’t do anything to you.”
Cassian froze, his pupils flickering with a brief tremor, but he didn’t try to explain himself.
“You start your new job at the center tomorrow,” he said softly. “Let’s get back to the apartment so you can
rest.”
Monday morning, Trista was up early.
It was her first day at the Sheptrans‘ private healing center, and she wanted to make a good impression on her new colleagues.
In the dressing room, she and Cassian stood side–by–side in front of the full–length mirror.
Cassian noticed a hair tie she’d dropped and leaned down to pick it up, his posture almost submissive as he handed it back.
Trista glanced at the unknotted tie in his hand.
She reached out, her fingers brushing the warm skin of his neck as she expertly tied it for him.
For a moment, they looked like a perfectly synchronized power couple.
As she grabbed her bag to leave, Cassian caught her wrist and pulled her back.
They stood in silence, and Trista immediately read the demand in his eyes.
She stood on her tiptoes and pressed a brief, cold kiss to the corner of his mouth.
Cassian instinctively pulled her into a possessive embrace, but Trista pushed him off the second it became
too much.
