Third Person’s POV

After the morning pack meeting wrapped up, Cassian sat in the grand council hall of the packhouse.
He stared at his phone for a solid minute, the cold glow of the screen making expression look even more ominous.
Finally, unable to handle the itch of anxiety in his chest, he sent Trista a quick text.
When she actually called him back a moment later, the permanent scowl on his face softened- just a fraction.
Trista spoke with the detached, professional concern she’d give any random patient. “Are you sure it’s the old injury acting up? Do you need to come back to the center for a scan?”
Cassian glanced at Humphrey, before speaking into the phone. “It’s just that nagging issue. My pheromones have been all over the place lately. Just mix me up a stabilizer, okay?”
On the other end, Trista agreed without a second thought. “Fine. I’ll whip something up when I get a break and bring it by tonight. I gotta go, I’m slammed. Bye.”
Cassian started to say something else, but the line went dead.
Humphrey watched Cassian’s face go from hopeful to homicidal in zero seconds flat. The aura in the room spiked so hard it was getting difficult to breathe.
Thinking fast, Humphrey decided to take one for the team and called Trista himself.
“Luna Trista,” Humphrey said, his voice trembling slightly. “Alpha Cassian’s pheromones are really red–lining. I don’t think he can make it until tonight.”
says you’ll have to
After a brief exchange, Humphrey hung up and braced himself. “Luna tough it out for a bit. She’s sending someone over with the meds before …on.”
Hearing that she was “sending someone“-which Cassian naturally assumed meant she was coming herself–the tension in his jaw finally eased. The suffocating atmosphere in the office began to lift.
It was just past 11:00 AM.
Humphrey had just handed Cassian a coffee when a female wolf knocked and stepped in. “Alpha Cassian, there’s a lady here without an appointment. She says she’s here to drop something off for you.”

Humphrey jumped in immediately. “You’re really gonna keep Luna Trista waiting? Bring her
in!”
Cassian closed the contract he was reviewing and stood up. He adjusted his collar, trying to smooth out the look of a man who hadn’t slept in days. “Cancel my lunch order,” he told Humphrey. “You’re dismissed.”
As Humphrey was backing out of the room, Samantha walked in, carrying a therm.
h box.
Cassian stared at her. She was dressed to the nines and was clearly wearing a scent–masking perfume. His face fell instantly. “What the hell are you doing here?”
Samantha didn’t blink. “Don’t get the wrong idea. Trista was too busy to leave the center, so she called me and asked me to drop off your stabilizer. I figured since you’ve had no appetite lately, I’d bring you some homemade soup, too.”
Humphrey didn’t even breathe as he hugged the wall and slipped out of the room.
Samantha set the box on the coffee table. “Cassian, Trista mentioned your insomnia is getting bad again. I added some healing herbs to the soup. Come have a taste?”
Cassian stayed behind his desk, looking like a block of unmoveable ice. “Leave the meds. Take the soup.”
Samantha’s fingers tightened around the ladle.
When she first came back, Cassian would tolerate almost anything because of their history.
But now, thanks to Trista’s “hands–off” attitude, he was clearly losing his patience with her.
She was convinced it was Trista’s fault.
If that woman wasn’t squatting in the Luna seat, Cassian would have brought her and the boy home to the packhouse a long time ago.
She stepped closer to him. “Cassian… did I do something wrong again?”
“I’m not hungry,” he said flatly. “Just go.”
Seeing the predatory flicker of rage in his eyes, Samantha didn’t dare push it.
Less than three minutes after walking in, she was slinking out of the hall with her lunch box in hand.
Once she was gone, Cassian leaned over his desk, his shoulders heavy with exhaustion as he closed his eyes.

He couldn’t believe it. Trista was actually “generous” enough to send his damn mistress to deliver his medicine?
This wasn’t being a “perfect mate“-it was like she was physically pushing him out of her life.
Frustrated, he grabbed his phone and pulled up her number.
After hesitating for nearly a minute, he sent her a text asking her out for dinner.
Trista was heading to the cafeteria with her team when she saw the message. She shot back a quick reply.
Then, after a few steps, she stopped, hit ‘forward,‘ and sent the restaurant address directly to Samantha.
After work, Cassian went straight to the restaurant.
He’d brought a gift–a “guardian energy” necklace to celebrate her new job. He set it on the chair next to him and sent a “where are you” text.
Ever since Samantha came back, his mating bond with Trista had been fading.
Trista wasn’t fighting him anymore, and she’d “accepted” Samantha’s existence, but that wasn’t what he wanted. He wanted the mate who looked at him like he was her entire world–not this polite, distant stranger.
In the distance, he saw Trista push open the door. He stood up to greet her.
But then he saw Samantha walking in right behind her.
The two she–wolves were actually chatting and smiling like old friends.
Cassian froze, his jaw tightening as the scene registered.
Before Trista could even say hello, he cut her off with a lethal glare. “Wha two together?”
is? Why are you
