Chapter 242

Third Person’s POV

Finished

Madison gave Samantha’s shoulder a supportive squeeze. Don’t you worry, Samantha. I’m going to introduce you to the absolute elite of our circle.

Samantha flashed a tiny, triumphant smile. Phase one was complete.

That evening, Cassian returned to the penthouse.

Trista was curled up on the sofa, scrolling through her phone. She didn’t even look up when he walked in.

Cassian set a heavy manila envelope on the coffee table, his voice carrying a rare note of actual concern. How are you feeling? Any better?

Trista cut her eyes toward him, her gaze icy. Are you seriously asking me that? You’re the one who did this. Don’t start playing the caring Alpha now. It’s pathetic.

Cassian unbuttoned his blazer and sat down beside her. His heavy Alpha aura crowded her instantly. He looked her dead in the eye and lowered his voice. You’re the one who set the trap last night, Trista. I just sprung it.

Trista’s mouth twisted into a mocking smirk. Hearing him play the victimcard was beyond delusional.

She looked away, not even dignifying that with a response.

Seeing her go completely cold, Cassian’s patience snapped. He reached out, snatched the phone from her hand, and forced her to look at him.

Sighing, Trista picked up the envelope and flipped through a few pages. Her eyes widened slightlyit was a comprehensive list of every bit of pack equity and private asset Cassian owned.

She closed it with zero emotion and shoved it back toward him.

Cassian didn’t take it. Instead, he grabbed her hand, his palm burning against her skin. That’s everything I own. The transfer papers are already drafted. One word from you, and it’s all yours.”

Trista didn’t know what kind of game he was playing now, but she wasn’t touching that money.

As his Luna, she knew better than anyone that without Cassian’s protection, she couldn’t hold onto that kind of wealth for even a day.

Besides, she wanted a clean break, not a golden cage.

She met his gaze headon. Cassian, I know how you operate. You could take all of this back the second you felt like it. If you have something to say, just say it. Stop using these papersto test

me.

A flicker of frustration crossed Cassian’s face. I told you, I’m done using my rank to threaten you,” he said, sounding genuinely serious. I mean it.

Trista pulled her hand back and stood up. I have patients at the healing center tomorrow. I’m going to bed.

She turned to leave, but he blocked her path, his expression darkening.

Trista, can we not just talk? Like a normal couple? Without the business or the fighting?

Trista shot him a look. No work, no fightingthen what is there to talk about, Cassian? Feelings? Do you even have those?

They locked eyes, and for a moment, the light in Cassian’s eyes dimmed. Even his dominant pheromones felt a bit sluggish, almost defeated.

He forced himself to change the subject. Find some time next week. We’re having dinner with Howard.

Trista brushed past him. Can’t. The international medical experts are visiting next week. I’m busy.

She walked into the bedroom and locked the door behind her.

Cassian stood in the living room, staring at the closed door, his brow furrowed into a deep knot.

Nothing was working. It didn’t matter what he said or didshe just didn’t believe him anymore.

Before the contract was voided, she’d at least play along for appearances. Now? She acted like looking at him was a chore.

Over the next few days, Trista stayed buried in work, leaving early and coming home late. She didn’t even show up for dinner.

By the time dinner rolled around again, Fred and Isaiah were back at the house. Once again, Cassian was the only man sitting at the table, looking miserable and lonely.

The three men sat on opposite sides, the atmosphere awkward as hell.

Fred sliced into a piece of venison and looked up. So, the apartment upstairs is empty. Samantha moved out?

Isaiah, his mouth full of food, chimed in. She finally hit the road?

Cassian glared at them, his annoyance peaking. You two eat here five days a week. You think this is a soup kitchen?

Fred shrugged, totally unfazed. As long as you’re still mated, Trista owns half this house. I’m eating her share, not yours.

Isaiah nodded in agreement. Exactly. Trista doesn’t care, so why do you?

Fred gave Cassian a provocative grin. Keep glaring at us and we might just spend the night. There’s a guest room, right?

Yeah!Isaiah cheered. We’ll stay right next door. I’ll make sure Trista makes our beds when she gets home!

Cassian stared at these two shameless idiots, completely speechless.

Friday afternoon, Cassian went back to Howard’s estate alone.

Wynn was glued to the TV. Look! Luna Trista is on the news!

On the screen, Trista was wearing light makeup, looking professional and poised as she gave the foreign experts a tour of the healing center.

Alaina couldn’t help but gush. Trista was always a natural. She succeeds at everything she touches.

Watching his family admire her, Cassian felt a complicated mix of emotions.

The carefree girl who once begged him to protect her forever was gone.

In her place was a woman who knew exactly how to hide her heartand who was absolutely brilliant in her field.

As he watched the confident, radiant version of Trista on the screen, Cassian’s dark wolfeyes shimmered. An old, suppressed instinct started to claw at his chest.
