Chapter 250

Third Person’s POV

Alaina’s eyes, sharp enough to cut through bone, stayed locked on Samantha. It was the look of an apex predator staring down a stray.

Samantha instinctively looked away, her skin crawling under that gaze. Her body was screaming at her: This shewolf could snap your neck in a heartbeat.”

Alaina finally looked away, her tone unreadable. You’re right. The boy is Cassian’s, after all. Tell you whatbring the kid downtown later. We’ll have a nice familydinner.”

She leaned into the word family, her voice carrying a chill that practically froze the air in the cafe.

The second Samantha left, Wynn slid out from her hidden booth and sat next to her mother. Mom, why did you talk to that lowrent shewolf for so long? What are you even planning? You aren’t seriously letting that mutt of a kid into our pack, are you?

Alaina took a calm sip of her coffee.

Samantha might be slow, but she was greedy. She wouldn’t pass up a chance to sink her claws into the Ironthorns.

Any shewolf struggling on the fringes of a territory would do anything for a seat at the table.

Alaina knew Trista, too. If Trista truly wanted out of the mating, she would use this opportunity to refuse to treat Samantha.

And Alaina knew Cassian’s temper best of all.

For the woman he once called his first love,he would definitely use his status as Alpha to force Trista to save her.

That would give Trista all the leverage. She could use the treatment as a bargaining chip to make him sign the severance papers.

At that point, Cassian would be cornered.

He would have to choose: stay in a dead mating and watch Samantha waste away, or save Samantha and lose Trista forever.

Either way, this messy triangle would finally end.

This was the only move Alaina could make as a mother to save Cassian’s futureand to protect

the girl she’d loved like a daughter since they were kids.

Near the end of the workday, Cassian got a call from Alaina inviting him to dinner at a private spot downtown.

He immediately tried to contact Trista, but she declined the call.

A few seconds later, he got a blunt text: Going to Isaiah’s tonight. Don’t wait up.”

Cassian’s mood soured instantly. His eyes darkened as he stared at the screen, his silence heavy with frustration.

His beta, Humphrey, saw the terrifying Alpha aura beginning to leak out and made a quick excuse about filing papers to get the hell out of the office.

Cassian stopped by the Blue Bay apartment first, but the place was cold and empty. Trista was

gone.

At 7:00 PM sharp, Cassian arrived at the restaurant.

When he pushed the door open and saw Samantha and Algernon sitting there, he froze.

Alaina didn’t even look up. She just pointed to the empty chair next to Samantha. Don’t just stand there. Sit down.”

Cassian didn’t move. What are you pulling now?he asked, his voice low and dangerous.

Seeing his reaction, Samantha stood up awkwardly, her hands fidgeting.

Cassian, don’t be mad. Alaina just said she hadn’t seen Algernon in a long time and wanted to have a meal with her grandson.”

Cassian looked at Samantha with the cold, detached gaze he usually reserved for enemies. He

turned to leave.

Alaina slammed her coffee cup onto the table. The sound echoed in the small room, and the air immediately turned thick with tension. Stay right where you are!

Cassian stopped, halfturning to look back.

Samantha quickly put on her best pleading face, grabbed his sleeve, and practically dragged him into the chair.

Alaina completely ignored the fact that Cassian looked ready to burn the building down.

She spoke casually. I just heard that Samantha’s mother is ill again, and Algernon has been through quite a scare lately. As the father, how have you not provided even basic support?

Cassian’s brow furrowed. Mom, could you stay out of my private business for once?

Alaina let out a sharp, cold laugh. I’d love to. I left it to you to handle, and look at the mess you’ve made. Is this what you call a result?

Seeing the two of them clash, Samantha shrank back.

She tried to play the peacemaker. Ma’am, you’ve got him wrong. Cassian takes very good care

of us.

Alaina shot Samantha a look of pure contempt, as if she were looking at a pile of trash. Is that all the ambition you have, Samantha? Your little drama is the talk of everywhere. You might not care about your reputation, but we still have to show our faces to the other packs. Even if you plan on being a homewreckerfor the rest of your life, have you thought about Algernon’s status? His bloodline?

Alaina proceeded to rip into both her son and Samantha without holding back.

Cassian’s jaw was tight, the veins in his neck bulging. Mom,he growled, can you at least try to have some filter?
