Chapter 254

Third Person’s POV

Trista was beyond exhausted. As a healer, her mental energy had been drained by volatile patients all day; she had zero patience left for Cassian’s manic brand of Alpha possessiveness.

She closed her eyes, her voice like ice. Cassian, you two literally have a kid together. Now you’re trying to tell me she’s not your woman? That’s the most pathetic joke I’ve ever heard.”

With that, she turned her back to him, effectively cutting the cord on the conversation.

But instead of cooling off, Cassian’s frustration spiked.

He lunged across the bed, his movements rough as he crowded her space. He threw a heavy arm over her, locking her into his chest with a strength that brooked no argument.

He buried his face in the crook of her neck, inhaling the mate scent that made his heart race and his head spin.

I haven’t touched her,” he rasped, his voice thick with suppressed indignation. Not once since she got back to LA.

He still couldn’t give her a straight answer about the boy, Algernon. This secret was a gag in his mouth, keeping him from defending his honor or proving he’d never actually broken their mating vows.

Trista felt her stomach churn. She tried to shrink further into the covers to get away from him. Every word out of your mouth makes me sick. I don’t believe a thing you say.”

Her reactiontreating him like he was some kind of plaguesnapped Cassian’s leadrope.

He threw the duvet aside, used his sheer physical advantage to haul her against him, and crashed his lips onto hers in a desperate, punishing kiss.

Trista let out a muffled scream, her hands and feet flailing as she tried to shove him off.

This raw, physical rejection pushed Cassian over the edge. His expression turned terrifying, his eyes glowing with a feral, preshift light.

Trista!he growled through gritted teeth. Under pack law, we are still mates. Why are you treating me like some kind of predator? What the hell is this?

Trista seized a moment to slip away, scrambling to the far corner of the kingsized bed and wrapping herself into a tight ball with the comforter.

Chapter 254

* Finched

She glared at him. Samantha is your precious first love. She’s been out there mating and un- mating with other rogues, and now she’s back ruining our lives. Her standards are in the gutter. Your private life is such a disaster, how do I know you haven’t picked up some nasty disease

from her?

She let out a sharp, cold snort. I don’t trust her, and I definitely don’t trust you to keep it in your pants. Tomorrow, you’d better get a full physical and show me the blood work. Until then, don’t you dare touch me.

The brown light in Cassian’s eyes went dark.

His fingers shot out, clamping around Trista’s ankle like a steel trap. With one violent yank, he dragged her back across the sheets until she was right in front of him.

He pinned her down through the thick duvet, his heavy, pinescented pheromones crushing the air out of the room.

It was total Alpha dominance, and it was suffocating.

Fury and humiliation finally broke Trista’s restraint.

The wolf inside her let out a piercing howl of rage. Her instincts shattered her logic, and with the audible crack of shifting bone, her fingernails elongated into razorsharp claws.

She

swung her arm with everything she had, her claws whistling through the air. She raked them across Cassian’s face.

Three bright red gashes exploded across his forehead and brow. The skin tore open instantly, and beads of crimson blood splattered onto the white linens, blooming like dark, ugly flowers.

They stared at each other from inches away. Cassian’s pupils trembledthe shock of a predator wounded by his own kind.

Trista pulled her hand back, her heart hammering against her ribs as she felt the warmth of his blood on her fingertips.

Cassian stared at her, his chest heaving. Blood dripped down the bridge of his nose, making him look like a wounded, vengeful wolf from the deep woods.

Finally, he let out a low, guttural growl and let her go.

The wounds on his face began to knit back together slowly, but the damage was done.

They retreated to opposite sides of the bed, the space between them widening into a canyon.

Only the dull ache of the mating bond throbbed in the silence.

A few seconds later, Cassian stood up and stormed out of the room.

Trista didn’t wait; she bolted the door, the sound of the lock clicking sharp and final.

She didn’t even say a word. He was acting like the offended party? Unbelievable.

The next morning, when Trista walked out of the bedroom, she found Cassian sitting on the sofa.

He looked like he hadn’t moved all night. His hair was a mess, and the three deep gashes on his forehead had crusted over into dark red scabs, looking jagged against his pale skin.

He hadn’t even used healing ointment. He’d just let the wounds sit there in the morning light- a silent accusation.

Sensing her presence, Cassian stood up. His pheromones felt like shards of ice, stinging the skin.

Trista didn’t even look at the injuries on his face. She walked past him as if he were invisible and went straight to the dining room.

Cassian stood frozen, his wolf snarling with rage and hurt. He waited a beat, then charged into the master bedroom and slammed the door behind him with enough force to shake the walls.
