Chapter 260

Third Person’s POV

Only after he was out of earshot did the young healers dare to huddle up and whisper.

Zelda, who was that? The vibe was so heavy my hands were literally shaking.

Zelda lowered her voice, her expression conflicted. That’s the Alpha of the Ironthorn Pack, Cassianand he’s Trista’s mate.

Cassian ignored the prying eyes behind him and doubled back to the office.

He smoothly grabbed Trista’s coat from the rack and held it out to her.

Trista kept her head down, focused on her charts, acting like he wasn’t even there.

It’s time to clock out,Cassian said, keeping his tone soft and careful. Let me take you out for a bite.

I’m not

Trista. He tried to catch her fingers with his, but she pulled back with practiced agility.

They were surrounded by colleagues and patients; the last thing Trista wanted was a pheromone showdown in public. It was beneath her.

Just go by selfshe said, her voice flat. I still have notes to finish.

Before she could react, Cassian’s arms wrapped around her waist from behind.

His heat radiated through her clothes, and the more she struggled, the heavier his grip became.

He leaned down, his warm breath ghosting over her ear, his posture lowlike a predator offering an apology. I know you’re hurting,” he murmured. Just give me some time. I’ll handle everything. I’ll make it right.

Trista’s back was pressed against his chest, and she could feel the powerful, steady thrum of his heart.

But her own heart stayed cold as stone. This man’s version of handling thingswas always just a calculated compromisenever a choice where she was the only one who mattered.

Weren’t we going to eat?Trista closed her eyes, letting out a mirthless laugh. Are we going or not?

Sensing the dismissal in her voice, Cassian took the win and slowly let her go.

He stared into her eyes, and for a split second, there was a flash of something in his gaze she’d never seen before: humility.

He took her hand again. Let’s go.”

This time, Trista didn’t pull away.

She was just exhausted by the sticky, suffocating weight of his persistence; she just wanted to get out of the office and away from the staring eyes.

The elevator was empty. The moment the metal doors slid shut, Trista’s face went cold and she snatched her hand back.

Cassian didn’t snap; he just stood silently by her side, letting their icy pheromones clash in the silence of the small space.

They picked a new restaurant near the healing center.

The second they walked in, Trista spotted Fred eating in a corner booth.

She was about to wave when a warm hand clamped over her mouth.

Cassian leaned in close to her face, his voice a low vibration. Just the two of us tonight, okay?

Trista gave a sharp nod, and only then did he pull his hand back.

But as they turned toward their table, a voice dripping with mockplayfulness cut through the air.

Isaiah appeared in their line of sight, his halfblood features looking wild and untamed.

At the sight of this uninvited guest,” the pine scent around Cassian turned sharp and aggressive.

Isaiah intentionally mimicked Cassian’s death starebefore sliding right past him to crowd into Trista’s space. Mind if I join you guys?Isaiah asked.

Trista saw the look on Cassian’s face and felt her mood improve instantly.

She gave a small smile. Isaiah, order whatever you want. It’s on me.”

Cassian grabbed Trista’s wrist, his grip firm and undeniable as he pulled her back into his personal space.

He leaned down, his voice a dangerous rasp against her ear. Trista, did everything I just said go in one ear and out the other?

Trista turned to him, her eyes wide with fake innocence. Did you say something?

Cassian felt a physical pang in his chest. His pheromones turned as cold as a frozen lake.

Well, look at this. What a coincidence.Fred strolled over from across the room, casually breaking the dead silence.

Cassian glared at Fred, his brow knitting together.

Isaiah let out a taunting chuckle. I just followed the smell of these two.”

Cassian stayed silent, a vein throbbing in his temple.

Since we’re all here, let’s just grab a big table. My treat,Fred said, pulling out a chair.

Don’t you have a date with your usual crowd of losers?Cassian snapped.

Fred pointed to an empty fourtop nearby and shrugged. Eating with those guys is boring. Watching you two is way more interesting.”

Isaiah seized the moment to grab Trista’s arm, practically leaning his whole body against her. We’re sitting together.”

Cassian’s instincts moved faster than his brain. He snatched Isaiah’s arm, his grip so tight his nails left marks in the fabric of Isaiah’s sleeve. His eyes were lethal. Do you want me to call your grandfather right now and have him come sit with you personally?

The two Alphas locked eyes, the air between them so tense it felt like bones were about to snap.

Isaiah scowled, but under the weight of Cassian’s higher rank, he eventually let go and squeezed into the chair next to Fred like a pouting child.

Trista acted like nothing had happened. She sat down next to Cassian and opened the menu.
