Third Person’s POV
Finished
Trista let out a sharp laugh and looked him dead in the eye. “A cheater has zero room to lecture me on professional ethics.”
Cassian’s pupils needle–pointed instantly.
“Since you’re so worked up over your ‘mate’s‘ mother,” Trista shot back, “why aren’t you rushing her to the hospital instead of wasting your breath on me?”
The second those words left her mouth, the crowd flipped.
“Wait–I thought he was just a helpful stranger. He’s the husband?”
“If they’re together, why is he just standing there barking at people? What a hypocrite.”
“Yeah, if you’re family, why haven’t you picked her up yet? That’s your mate’s mother!”
Hearing the crowd mistake him and Samantha for a mated couple made Cassian’s face go dark.
He snarled, “Trista, what the hell are you talking about?!”
Trista just caught the eyes of Fred and Isaiah and gave them a tiny nod.
Samantha stood in the middle of the crowd, clutching her clothes in total embarrassment.
Fred, picking up on Trista’s cue, stepped forward and gave Cassian a rough shove toward Samantha.
“Cassian, man, this is low!” Fred shouted for the whole street to hear. “Your son is almost in grade school! Even if you guys are fighting, you can’t just disown your son’s grandma like this!”
Before Cassian could even open his mouth, Isaiah pointed at the two of them and started heckling. “I’m a witness! They’re totally a couple! They’ve got a kid and everything!”
The crowd exploded. The whispers turned into a roar of public shaming directed straight at Cassian.
Cassian froze, his face pale with fury.
He clamped his jaw shut, his dark eyes boring into Trista.
Isaiah wasn’t done yet. He raised his voice even louder. “He doesn’t care that Samantha is crying her eyes out! He doesn’t care that her mother is collapsed on the sidewalk! I’ve been a wolf for twenty years and I’ve never seen a guy with this little class!”
Fred threw more gas on the fire. “Treating his wife and her mother like this? I bet he’s got a side–piece somewhere!”
Fred and Isaiah were working the crowd like a professional comedy duo.
The bystanders completely forgot Trista was even there. They looked at Samantha with pure pity and

turned their rage on Cassian.
“He looks like a gentleman, but he’s just a piece of trash!”
“Look at him in that designer suit while that poor woman looks like she’s struggling. Unbelievable.
“Married with a kid and out chasing tail? Guys like him should die alone.”
Hearing the crowd tear into Cassian was too much for Samantha.

She lunged forward, shielding Cassian from the mob. “All of you, shut up!” she shrieked. “You don’t know anything! How dare you judge him?”
Cassian pulled her aside. “Take care of your mother. Don’t worry about me.”
Samantha shook her head frantically, clutching his arm. “It’s my fault you’re being treated like this! I can’t just stand here and listen to them say these things about you!”
Trista watched the two of them having their “big romantic moment” and felt like giving them a standing ovation.
Cassian caught the mockery in her eyes and immediately pushed Samantha away.
Just then, a middle–aged woman walked up to Samantha. “Honey, if his heart isn’t in it anymore, stop protecting him!”
An older lady chimed in, “Seriously, a scumbag like this isn’t worth it. Leave him!”
Samantha looked like she wanted the ground to swallow her whole.
Finally, Humphrey, Cassian’s beta, came rushing over.
Cassian pointed at Georgia on the ground and barked, “Get her to the hospital. Now!”
Humphrey stole a quick glance at Trista but moved to comply.
Trista, who had been enjoying the show, slowly walked over and blocked him.
“The cause of the fainting is unknown. You can’t just move her.”
Humphrey froze, terrified of making a mistake.
Seeing Trista get close to her mother, Samantha panicked and blocked her path. “What do you think you’re doing?”
Trista looked at Cassian, her voice dropping to a chill. “I thought you wanted me to perform emergency
aid? Move.”
Samantha scurried back to Cassian’s side. “Cassian, stop her! She’s just going to take her revenge out on my mom!”
Cassian stepped in front of Trista, blocking her way.

His bloodshot eyes locked onto hers, his voice raspy from the tension. “Trista, tell me. Is this about saving a life, or is this about getting even?”
Trista met his gaze. There wasn’t a single spark of emotion in her eyes.
The absolute silence in her gaze made Cassian’s heart skip a beat with a sudden, new kind of fear.
“Cassian, don’t flatter yourself,” she said calmly. “Risking my career just to get even with people like you? You’re not worth it.”
That cold, surgical logic pinned Cassian to the spot. The Alpha rage that had been boiling in his chest was snuffed out instantly.
Trista glanced at Fred. He got the message immediately and grabbed a still–grinning Isaiah.
“Healer handling an emergency! Everyone back off!”
The two of them released a heavy wave of high–tier Alpha aura, forcing the crowd to clear a wide circle around the scene.
