The Heartbroken Luna’s Choice: Banish Love
Chapter 270
Third Person’s POV

Trista let out a sharp laugh. “So that whole act last night was just because you were worried you’d have no one to play the part of the happy wife today?”
Cassian shook his head, a rare look of exhaustion in his eyes. “I meant every word I said. If you truly hate those events, I won’t force you to go.”
“Then I’m not going,” Trista said, cutting him off cleanly.
Cassian swallowed his disappointment and didn’t push.
Instead, he pulled a hair tie from his pocket and held it out to her.
“I saw the one on your sink was broken this morning, so I picked up a new one. It’s got that bow you like.”
Trista didn’t take it.
“Cassian, it’s not that I like bows. I cherished the old one because it came from my Cassian. That’s the only reason it mattered.”
Cassian stared into her eyes, his heart skipping a beat.
“Trista,” he breathed, his voice thick with emotion. He thought, “for a second, she was finally softening.”
But her next words hit him like a bucket of ice water.
“But the version of you standing here now belongs to Samantha and her kid. Taking a gift from another woman’s man? I’m not interested in your leftovers.”
The air between them felt like it was shattering.
Cassian’s eyes turned a bloodshot red, his voice sounding like sandpaper. “Trista, I’m still your Cassian. I haven’t changed. I’m right here.”
Trista turned her back on him so he couldn’t see the dead look in her eyes.
“My Cassian died last summer,” she said, looking out at the dark edge of the territory.
“I waited a whole month for him, but only his ghost came back. You’re just a stranger who looks like him.”
She climbed into bed and clicked off the light.
The room plunged into darkness. Cassian stood frozen in the silence, closing his eyes against the searing pain.
The next afternoon, at the Shadowfang packhouse, Alistair’s long fingers toyed with a gold–leaf invitation.
He held it out to Trista. “Are you free tonight? I’d like to invite you to be my date.”

Trista immediately thought of Cassian’s offer from the night before.
“The Gilbert gala?” she asked.
Alistair smirked, giving a slow, wordless nod.
Trista smiled back.

She was genuinely curious to see how the “high and mighty” Simmons family would react when the Ironthorn Luna showed up on enemy turf, walking side–by–side with the Shadowfang Alpha.
8:00 PM, at the Gilbert gala, Cassian arrived on time with his parents.
In his sharp, tailored black suit, his 6’3” frame was pure intimidation.
With his cold, aristocratic features and that unmistakable Alpha aura, he was the center of gravity the moment he walked in.
Even the seasoned corporate titans in the room tucked their claws in around him.
The Ironthorn group moved through the crowd like they were inspecting a vassal state.
A middle–aged she–wolf raised a glass, testing the waters. “Cassian, where’s your mate tonight?”
Cassian didn’t miss a beat, his tone perfectly polished. “Trista is tied up with work at the healing center. I’ll bring her by to visit you personally another time.”
The Gilbert elders nodded, murmuring compliments about how Trista was as hardworking as she was beautiful.
But just as the guests were falling over themselves to impress Cassian, a low gasp rippled through the
entrance.
“Wait… isn’t that Luna Trista?” a young woman’s voice cut through the chatter.
Cassian turned along with everyone else.
Standing at the entrance of the ballroom was Trista, wearing a dreamlike, ethereal blue gown.
Under a thousand shocked and curious gazes, she looked perfectly composed. Her hand was rested firmly on Alistair’s shoulder as she slowly pushed his wheelchair into a room where she definitely didn’t belong.
The ballroom went from a dull roar to absolute silence before exploding into a low–frequency hum of gossip.
“Didn’t Cassian just say his Luna was busy?”
“I guess her ‘private‘ schedule is more interesting than Ironthorn business. Who’s the guy in the chair?”
“Look at that dress. That’s this season’s high–couture. Who besides the Ironthorns could get their hands on
that so fast?”
“Don’t be naive. Maybe it was a ‘thank you‘ gift from the guy she’s pushing.“.

“Haven’t you heard? Cassian already broke the mating bond. He brought a love child back to the territory. For a Luna like her, playing the field is just the smart move.”
The whispers hit like needles.
Alaina’s face went white with fury. Wilmot’s chest heaved as he struggled to keep his rage in check.
The Icepeak wolves–the Gilberts–looked even more stunned. Their expressions were a messy mix of joy, fear, and pure disbelief at seeing Alistair there.
“Cassian, you said she was busy,” Alaina hissed through gritted teeth.
“What the hell is this?” Wilmot’s voice was a low, animalistic growl.
