The Heartbroken Luna's Choice Banish Love novel Chapter 299

Third Person's POV

After Fred left, Cassian sat in the office alone for a long time.

The things Alaina and Fred had said kept circling in his head like a curse, making it impossible to think straight.

Over the next few days, Alaina, Wynn, and Paisley took turns staying at the healing center.

They used their specific pack pheromones to soothe Trista's fractured wolf soul, helping her body recover quickly.

By Sunday night, Trista turned to Alaina. "Alaina, just head back with Wynn. I'm going back to work tomorrow."

Alaina nodded and led the group out.

Once they were gone, Trista took a shower and started getting her gear ready for the morning.

She'd been stuck in bed so long that even moving around a little made her feel lightheaded.

Suddenly, she felt a pair of hands steadying her. Cassian was behind her, his grip firm on her arms.

Seeing the cold sweat on her forehead, Cassian looked like he was about to break.

"Even if you want to get back at me, you don't have to destroy your own health to do it."

Trista shoved his hands off and sat down to catch her breath. "Cassian, I didn't do that to get revenge. I did it to cut you out of my life so I can actually breathe again. You don't matter enough to me for me to use my body as a weapon. Get over yourself."

Her cold, detached tone hit Cassian like a physical blow.

He dropped to his knees in front of her, resting his hands on her lap, looking up into her eyes.

"Trista, I know I've been a mess. I know I hurt you because I couldn't choose between you and those two. I'm guilty as hell." He tentatively reached for her hand, his voice raspy.

"I'll cut Samantha out for good. I'll never let you be sad again. Just don't leave me. Whatever you want, I'll do it. I'll wait forever if I have to."

They stood there in the walk-in closet, the tension thick.

Trista thought about it for a second then said, "Cassian, this mating is ending. Period. But until the papers are done, I can stay here."

Before he could look relieved, she cut him off. "On my terms. I take the master bedroom. You sleep on the couch. We don't cross paths. Got it?"

The baby was gone, and the Ironthorn members knew the truth about Samantha's son.

Alaina just gave her a look of pure disgust, like she was looking at a stray dog that had wandered onto the wrong porch.

Still delusional, Samantha nudged her son. "Algernon, go on. Show your grandmother how well-behaved you are."

"Samantha, the fact that you think a half-breed kid from your low-life ex could ever be an Ironthorn... you've got some balls," Alaina's voice sliced through the room.

Samantha felt her blood turn to ice. Her mind went blank.

She stared at Alaina, terrified.

How did she know?

Samantha stood there, reeking of the sour scent of guilt.

She tried to play dumb. "What are you talking about? Algernon is Cassian's son. You can't talk about a future Alpha like that..."

Alaina arched an eyebrow, and her full aura slammed into the room, making Samantha's knees buckle. "Samantha, Cassian already told us the kid smells like a mutt. Stop acting. It's only going to make this harder for you."

Samantha's eyes darted around, her hands shaking so hard she had to hide them.
