Chapter 29
Pain flooded my sight with darkness, I tried to keep breathing, tried to maintain consciousness. My strength was flowing away, drained by the poison pumping through my body. I lay moaning on the forest floor.
I dragged myself to the tree and leaned against it, panting. Even that small distance had sapped me of all my energy.
Suddenly, screams and commotion filled the forest glade. I heard the sounds of a struggle, and the horrible rending of flesh. The
sounds died away.
Someone was walking towards me out of the darkness.
“No, no, no!” I cried out.
Would my mark save me?
It lay dormant and did nothing.
A pair of strong legs and boots appeared in my vision. I kicked at them.
The person ducked and grabbed my ankles in their strong hands.
With a shock, I realized it was Gideon. His strong, handsome face solidified out of the darkness, frowning at me as he easily
subdued my kicks.
“Get up,” he growled.
I stared at him in shock. Where had he come from? What had happened to the people who had been imprisoning me here?
“Up.” Gideon’s hands removed the rope from the tree, and he pulled me to my feet. He quickly untied my hands, tossing the
rope to the side.
“Let’s go.” he said. When I didn’t move, he tugged at my arm. I took a step forward and screamed with pain. The bite on the inside of my thigh was excruciating. I fell back to the ground.
Gideon’s hands were on my legs again. Deftly, he moved the layers of clothing to the side until he found the bite. I looked down, seeing the puncture mark on my thigh and the red skin on either side.
Gideon sighed and leaned forward, kneeling on the ground between my legs. His hands cleared the area around the wound of fabric, pulling it roughly to the side. The bite was relatively high on my inner thigh.
Swiftly, he parted my thighs and leaned down as though he was about to place his mouth over the wound.
“What are you-?” I breathed, “No, don’t!” I kicked out and tried to push myself backwards away from him.
Gideon gave me a quelling glance.
“Don’t act up, unless you want to die,” he said, coldly. He firmly grabbed my leg again, yanking me towards him, and dipped his head.
Seeing the Nightwolf Alpha on his knees between my legs was shocking. I tried to look away, to think about anything else. It was so awkward to have him touching me like this.
I felt embarrassed that, once again, Gideon had to come to my rescue. He would think I was so useless.
Our intimate position was mortifying as he prepared to suck the venom from my wound. The way my clothing was ripped away was very exposing.
I couldn’t imagine my old Alpha in Silvermoon doing this for me, or anyone. Even Ryan would probably have just left me to die.
“How can you do this?” I gasped as Gideon’s lips grazed my thigh.
