Chapter 377
By the time the contract ended, he might have completely forgotten about me.
That was what drove me to sign my name. That small ounce of hope outweighing the worry. That believed that, soon enough, Gideon would move on and so could I. 2
Freedom.
Claire arrived the next day to go over the things I’d missed in the human lands while I was gone. She’d never been to the packs before, and looked at everything with awe as Sebastian and I showed her around. All of the other wolves looked at her quizzically, surprised that a human was amongst us.
“Wow,” Claire said, nudging Sebastian with her shoulder as he showed her the communal gardens out behind the Alpha house. “Do you work in the gardens, too?”
“Sometimes.” Sebastian smiled. “I do like to get my hands dirty on occasion.”
“Ooh. That’s a positive quality in a man.”
Sebastian shot me a look. “Are human women always this forward?” he laughed.
“Pretty much, yeah.”
Sebastian chuckled and walked away, guiding us toward the clinic. Claire looked at me behind his back and wiggled her eyebrows suggestively. I rolled my eyes, but smiled.
She knew all about the contract already. I’d told her about it before I even signed it, just as I told her about everything that happened around here. In fact, after the tour, we headed into Sebastian’s office, and she looked over it.
“It all seems above board,” she said, setting aside the contract. She then reached for the copy of the one we’d signed with Aldric and Gideon, and studied that one closely. The room was silent for a while, the only sound that of the cuckoo clock ticking on the wall.
