“Avery,” he said, setting down his fork.
“How are you finding it?” I asked.
“It’s…” He glanced around. “Lively.”
“The food is not bad,” another offered, which was a surprising but welcome admission. He speared a potato on his fork and studied it like he’d never seen anything like it before.
“I’m glad.” I clasped my hands together. “I was hoping you’d consider staying on until tomorrow. I want to show you what I’ve been working on. I think once you see the scope of it, your concerns about my being here will start to make a lot more sense.”
The men bowed their heads together and whispered amongst themselves for a few moments, occasionally glancing at me, before they pulled apart. One man looked at me and raised his index finger.
“One night,” he said. “If we don’t like what we see tomorrow…”
“I know,” I cut them off with a tight but pleasant smile. “You’re pulling out. You’ve made yourselves very clear on that front.”
The men nodded, almost in unison, then went back to their food. As I walked away, I spotted the woman from before, the one who had frightened one of the men at the food table, looking at that same man. He looked up, catching her gaze, and she winked and wiggled her fingers at him.
His ears reddened and he suddenly became very invested in his potato again.
I snorted to myself but didn’t comment on it and went to get something to eat.

The readers' comments on the novel: The Heartless Alpha’s Beloved Luna (Avery and Gideon)
Why is Avery constantly projected as a weak, Gideon-centered female? It’s draining please I hope you can do better on your next lead female....
