He scratched his head. “It’s, uh… Sebastian is out right now, if you were looking for him.”

“Where is he?” I asked.

Colt’s jaw moved slightly. “Forest.”

“I figured. Melissa told me he’s been spending his days out there, but Goddess, I didn’t think it was this bad.” I looked at him for a moment. “How long has this been going on?”

He huffed and plopped down into the chair behind the desk, picking up a cup of coffee, sniffing it, then wrinkling his nose and setting it aside. “Since you left. It was a few hours at first, here and there. Now it’s most of the day.” He rubbed the side of his face. “He leaves in the morning, comes back after dark, won’t say where he goes or what he does out there. And he told me to stop asking.”

“How’s the pack doing?”

Colt merely gestured at the papers in front of him, which was all the answer I needed.

I frowned, dragging my inner cheek through my molars. This wasn’t like Sebastian at all, to leave all this work for one Beta to handle on his own.

“Is there anything I can do to help?” I asked.

Colt shrugged. “Try talking to him, maybe? He got pissed at me, but maybe he’ll be more receptive to you.”

I nodded, shoving my hands into my pockets. “I’ll give it a try. But for the record, now that I’m here and I’ve seen what’s going on, I’m only doing it to help you and the pack.”

Colt was already scribbling on paperwork again and didn’t seem to hear me.
