Gideon’s POV
Avery was quiet on the drive home, her cheek pressed against the window, that little smile still sitting on her face. Her hand didn’t leave mine the entire way. She’d laced her fingers through mine as soon as I pulled out of the driveway, and now, as we pulled into our own, she was still holding on.
I parked and pulled the key out of the ignition, looking over at her. “You sure you’re okay?” I asked. “You’ve been quiet.”
“You keep asking me that.” She leaned across the console and kissed my cheek as she reached for her door handle. “I told you. I feel great.”
“Okay. Suit yourself.” We climbed out and headed inside.
Bjorn, of course, was still up when we entered. He was sitting on the bottom step in his pajamas, clearly having been waiting. The moment he saw me, he shot to his feet and grinned.
“How was the party?” he asked. “Did you—”
He froze when Avery entered behind me, shutting the door.
“It’s late, young man,” she said, wagging her finger at him. “Didn’t I tell you to be in bed by the time I got back?”
Bjorn pulled his head back. “No. You told me I can stay up late as long as I stay out of trouble.”
The foyer fell silent. I looked between the two of them, confused. Avery was still smiling, but Bjorn’s face had gone pale, like he was looking at a ghost instead of his own mother.
“Well,” Avery said, “I guess I forgot.”
Bjorn stared at her for another moment. Then, without a word, he turned and bolted up the stairs. I heard his feet pound down the hallway, then flinched at the sound of his door slamming and echoing through the quiet house.
I turned to Avery. “What was that about?”
She shrugged and dropped her shoes, which she was still holding, by the door.
I had to admit it was a turn on. After everything, after the past few weeks of fog and fear, having her come at me like this was a relief, and my body answered on instinct.
She pulled me toward the bed without breaking away, tearing at the strap of her dress until the seam gave with a soft rip.
“Easy,” I said against her mouth, half-laughing. “We’ve got all night. No need to ruin your dress.”
“I don’t want easy.” She pushed me back onto the mattress and climbed over me, settling her weight on my hips, her hands flat on my chest. Her hair fell around both our faces. “I want you to give me a baby.”
I went still under her.
“What?”
“Another one.” She bent and pressed her mouth to my throat, hot breath against my skin. “I want to feel it. I want you to put a baby in me tonight.”

Why is Avery constantly projected as a weak, Gideon-centered female? It’s draining please I hope you can do better on your next lead female....
