The Heiress’ Return: Six Brothers at Her Beck and Call (Wynter Quinnell) novel Chapter 2038

Right after saying that, Krugen aimed the gun right at the person who had spoken up. "Do you think I won't dare to kill you?"

With the gun pressed to his forehead, the man's hair stood on end in fear. "Mr. Krugen, I… I didn't mean—"

"Krugen, what are you doing?" Barry stepped into the doorway. Seeing Krugen level the gun at his own men, he strode forward and wrenched the pistol away. "Why are you pointing a gun at your own people?"

"Sir, Mr. Krugen just killed one of the scientists…" the man stammered, huddling behind Barry.

"What?" Barry's eyes snapped wide open, staring straight at Krugen. "Didn't I tell you that now is not the time for killing? Why didn't you listen?"

Krugen's expression stayed cold. "Unimportant people can be killed."

Barry pointed his own pistol at Krugen. "Do you not understand that we need their data? Are you trying to sabotage this operation? I should've expected this from you!"

Krugen didn't flinch. He lifted the gun harmlessly to his own temple. "If you don't trust me, then shoot. I don't care for needless words."

"You owe me an explanation." Barry's gaze sharpened.

"The one who died was insignificant. The data is with the others." Krugen suddenly smiled. "Don't tell me you're afraid now? Are you hesitating to kill them because they're Cascadians?"

Hearing that, Barry tightened his jaw. "I want the data. Their lives mean nothing to me."

Krugen's gaze deepened. "Then give me half an hour. I'll make them spill everything in that time."

Barry stared at him intently for some time, then finally said, "If you don't bring me the data in half an hour…"

"Then you can do with me as you please. If you want the data, follow my plan. Stall the professor and the rest. Leave this to me."

Barry pocketed his pistol at last. "Fine. I'll be back in half an hour. I hope you deliver."

Krugen faced the remaining scientists. "Your turn. Who holds the data? You have one minute. After that, I'll kill another one of you."

Back in the other room, Wynter and Dalton sat unmoved as Barry's entourage filed in. "Mr. Millard, we prepared some fruit for you."

Dalton's voice was cool. "I'm not interested. If you can't produce the data, don't waste my time."

Cobra, standing nearby, bristled. He grabbed a pistol and trained it on Dalton. "You dare speak like that at our base? Do you think I won't shoot you?"

Dalton glanced up, his gaze frosty. "Do you want to try?"

Seeing this, Barry interjected sharply, "Put the gun away! Mr. Millard is my guest. No one has the right to insult him!"

Cobra swallowed his anger and holstered the weapon. "Understood, sir."

Wynter rose. "The professor's time is valuable. Don't delay him, or our schedule will be messed up."

Barry's eyes darkened as he countered, "Then change his schedule. I'll pay more than anyone else."

Dalton's gaze narrowed. "And if I insist on leaving?"

Barry retorted coldly, "Then see if you can actually get out of here alive. You'll have to see if my men will let you leave."

At that command, the guards behind him all raised their guns in unison.

"We can stay! I can reschedule!" Wynter feigned fear, glancing at Dalton. "Professor, this place is too dangerous… Let's just finish the job and leave. Otherwise, we really might lose our lives here."

Barry chuckled. "The wise know when to bend. The professor's aide seems to have a good head on her shoulders."

He sat down, his eyes settling on Wynter. "Krugen says you saved his life. If that's true, I won't harm you. As long as you help me finish this, I'll see you safely out."

Wynter smiled faintly. "Then, allow me to thank you on the professor's behalf."

Barry turned his pistol idly in his hand. "But there's something I don't understand. Your Emstian is flawless, yes. But your looks… You look strangely like a Cascadian."

Wynter's eyes lifted. "That's because Mr. Millard and I both carry Cascadian blood. We've never publicized it. There's too much anti-Cascadian sentiment overseas, so we hide it for our safety."

Barry's voice turned cold. "I see. I've already sent men to investigate. Let's hope what you told me holds true."

The three locked eyes in silence, while Wolf sat nearby, his fingers busy with a laptop.

"And the boy?" Barry's gaze shifted to him.

"He's our bodyguard," Wynter replied flatly.

That sparked laughter around the room.

"Bodyguard? That scrawny kid?"

"One punch, and he's flat on the floor!"

"I've never seen a child hired as a bodyguard!"

Barry smirked. "Then, I'll let my weakest man have a match with him. If your bodyguard gets dropped in one punch, I'll even replace him for free."

He beckoned. "Cobra, come spar with Mr. Millard's guard."

Wynter's eyes turned dark. "Are you sure about this?"

"Of course. If my man loses, Mr. Millard can walk out whenever he likes." Barry's smile was one of absolute confidence.

Wynter nodded, then turned to Wolf. "Go easy. Don't overdo it."

Wolf closed the laptop. "Got it."

The men cleared space in the center of the room, leaving a circle for Wolf and Cobra.

Cobra sneered, his arms folded. "Kid, I'll give you three moves. After that, you won't get another chance."

But before the words had fully left his mouth, he was already airborne, flung violently across the room. He crashed to the ground, and no one—including Barry—had seen what happened.

"What just happened? Did the Second Captain get thrown?"

"I couldn't see it, either. He just went down!"

Barry frowned. "Was the floor slippery?"

"Y-Yes, sir," Cobra muttered as he scrambled back on his feet. He turned his gaze back to Wolf. "No more holding back. Let's see what you've really got."

With that, he sprang forward, fist cocked like a hammer.

But just as his strike was about to land, Wolf's small palm closed around the fist, locking it in place. Cobra couldn't budge an inch. Then, with one smooth motion, Wolf flung him away again.

"Captain Cobra! Are you okay?"

"Captain, don't go soft on him just because he's a kid!"

A few men rushed over, hauling Cobra up from the floor.

Barry's gaze turned icy. "Worthless trash. How can you still call yourself Second Captain?"

Cobra gasped, his ribs likely cracked. "Sir… this kid's weird. I can't even touch him."
