Chapter 127 A Visit From Her Master

I’ve acquired a collection of antique paintings. First come, first served. Miss out, and they’re gone.

Wait for me. I’m coming.

Stella’s eyes narrowed slightly.

She’d dealt with Amber before. Amber wasn’t clever enough to orchestrate all of this on her ownnot unless someone was guiding her. Could it be Michelle?

But her mother shouldn’t have had any conflict with her

Miss Shaw, would you like to see your room? If anything’s missing, I’ll get it for you right away.

And you are?

Lily.

Stella nodded. I’ll take a look first. UmMr. Moore.

Of course.

When Stella entered the room, she heard him murmuring in his sleep, restless and pained. NicoleNicole

She wiped the sweat from his forehead herself. His brow was furrowed, his expression troubledlike he was trapped in a nightmare.

After a long moment, she smoothed the lines from his forehead, covered a yawn, and settled onto the nearby sofa, letting her eyes close.

When Jasper woke, he felt heavy, drained. He touched his forehead, then frowned.

His gaze landed on the figure beside him, and for a moment, his expression hardeneduntil he recognized her.

Morning light fell across Stella’s face, soft and warm. The tension in his brow melted away, replaced by something tender. He eased out of bed, moving carefully, trying not to wake her.

But the moment he shifted, her eyes snapped open. Her fist shot out, stopping just short of his car. He tilted his head slightly, barely avoiding it.

She pulled back quickly, a flicker of embarrassment crossing her face. You’re awake?

A gentle smile settled on Jasper’s pale features. Why didn’t you sleep in your room?

She scratched her head, avoiding the question. Let me check on you.

Jasper sat obediently, watching her like a tamed lion, his gaze soft.

Remembering how quickly she’d reactedhow defensivelysomething in his chest tightened.

She must have had a hard life. All these years.

I’ve prescribed medication for you. Take it as directed. I should head back now.

Stella. Stay for breakfast. Please.

Something in his voice made it impossible to refuse. She nodded.

Lily led her to the room Jasper had prepared.

When she stepped inside, her lips parted slightly. The room was spaciousmore than spacious. Lavish.

Miss Shaw, Mr. Moore prepared all of this for you.

The bed, the furniture, the skincare products on the vanity, the custommade clothes hanging in the closet, the bags, the jewelryeverything was there. He’d prepared it all, even though he hadn’t known if she’d ever come.

Would you like to bathe first?

Alright.

Do you prefer bath oils, or would you like flower petals drawn?

Stella blinked. She wasn’t short on money herself, but she’d never paid this much attention to detail.

She looked at the array of bath products held by over a dozen staff members and finally chose a lavender

set.

Uncomfort with the idea of soaking in someone else’s tub, she showered quickly and stepped out.

Her phone buzzed. A message from Tess.

Stella. Derek’s been executed. Confirmed dead.

Stella closed her eyes for a moment. One death didn’t erase the pain.

Her mother hadn’t been able to escape because of everyone in that village. And yetshe couldn’t send them all to prison.

Stella? You alright?

She opened the door. Jasper’s eyes were full of concern. Breakfast is ready.

She nodded and followed him downstairs.

When she reached the table, she stopped.

She blinked. Counted silently. Gave up.

Breakfast?

Over a hundred dishes?

Jasper smiled sheepishly. I didn’t know what you liked. So I had the hotel send over everything.

What happens to what’s left?

Don’t worry. Nothing will go to waste.

She let it go. She was hungry.

Jasper sat across from her, watching her with quiet warmth.

She set down her fork.

What’s wrong? Not good?

She shook her head, confused, glancing at the empty place setting beside him. Someone else coming?

Jasper looked at it. A sad smile tugged at his lips. That’s for your mother.

Ever since he’d learned Nicole was gone, he’d set a place for her at every meal.
