Chapter 20 The Ignored Offering

She slid off her sunglasses, revealing a flawless heart–shaped face with porcelain skin. Her delicate fingers brushed back a strand of hair, and she gave the crowd a warm smile, her red lips parting. “Thank you, everyone.”
She didn’t accept gifts–only letters–and signed autographs for her fans.
Silas‘ face lit up with excitement.
Iris was about to walk right in front of him.
He’d get to meet her up close.
“Thank you all, but I have another appointment and need to leave now,” Iris said, stopping just in front of Silas. Suddenly, she stopped taking letters or signing autographs, apologizing to the crowd.
“Iris! My letter!”
“Iris, I made these shoes by hand! Please look at them!”
As she passed Silas, the fans grew too enthusiastic to ignore. Iris took the letters after all–and the handcrafted shoes too.
To return the kindness, she gave the fan a concert ticket.
The girl clutched the ticket, her eyes brimming with tears of joy.
“Iris! These shoes–I had a master make them just for you! Please take them!” Silas called out, holding up the custom shoe box.
Iris didn’t look back. She climbed into her luxury van, waved to the fans with a smile, and never once glanced in Silas‘ direction.
His excitement turned to disappointment, then despair.
“Silas?” Jasmine said, eyeing the shoes greedily, her desire impossible to hide.
“I’ll have to give them to her at the concert instead,” Silas muttered.
Jasmine’s spirits plummeted.
“What do I have to do to get Iris to notice me?” Silas whispered to himself.
“I can’t wait for Iris‘ concert! I’m so excited!”
“I bought a new camera. I’m gonna take the perfect photos of our goddess!”
“My parents support my fandom! They said if I nail a 92% on my practice exam, they’ll contact the genius composer Nirvana to write a song for Iris. Then I can give it to her in person and meet my idol face–to- face! I’m gonna study my hardest when I get home!”

“Not only will we get to share the same idol, but we’ll get a Nirvana song too!”

“I’m totally hyped! Nirvana’s songwriting plus Iris‘ heavenly voice–they got me through my whole youth!”
“Take me with you when you meet her!”
“You bet!”
“Ugh! First priority: go home and study! Let’s crush it for a chance to meet our idol!”
Silas‘ eyes lit up when he heard the fans talking.
Flowers and gifts–of course Iris wouldn’t care about those.
But a song written and composed by Nirvana? That would definitely catch her attention.
Why hadn’t he thought of that earlier?
“Silas, what are you thinking about?” Jasmine asked.
“Nothing. Let’s go home,” Silas said.
Jasmine’s heart filled with anxiety.
First Stella, now Iris.
What was she supposed to do?
She’d start by ruining that country bumpkin Stella’s image in Silas‘ mind.
One by one. Silas was hers–and only hers.
–
At Imperial Crest Towers, Stella knew Iris was arriving soon, so she went down to the parking garage to
meet her.
Iris spotted her the second she stepped out of the car.
“Stella!”
Iris sprinted over and latched onto Stella like a koala, clinging tight.
“I missed you! I missed you! I missed you so much!”
Elias had just gotten off work. He and Gideon stepped out of their car and froze at the sight.
“Nowadays, girls claim they can’t even open a water bottle–but they can koala–hug a grown adult like it’s nothing,” Gideon joked, walking ahead. When he noticed Elias wasn’t moving, he turned back.
“Mr. Cross? What’s wrong?”
He followed Elias‘ gaze and did a double take.

That girl looks familiar…
Gideon pushed up his glasses, his eyes widening in shock.
That–isn’t that Miss Shaw, Mr. Cross‘ savior?
Could she be…?
“Mr. Cross, with your looks, you could definitely win her over,” Gideon said.
Elias shot him a glare. The icy stare made Gideon’s spine go cold, and he stumbled back two steps.
Why dol always have to open my big mouth?
I’m gonna get myself fired one day!
By then, Stella and Iris had stepped into the elevator.
Elias‘ mood turned foul. Gideon didn’t dare say another word.
