“Gotta save up to give my wife extra spending money,” Elias said.
“Seeing the great Mr. Cross talk about saving money is truly rare,” Frederick teased.
They finished the meal laughing and chatting.

Elias dropped Stella off at home. Before they could get out of the car, they spotted Jasper pacing at the door.
Stella’s face lit up. She pointed excitedly, “It’s Dad!” Her voice was brimming with joy.
She hopped out of the car and ran toward Jasper. “Dad!”
Jasper smiled warmly, gently patting her head. “You’re home.”
“Yeah.”
Elias got out too. “Mr. Moore.”
“Come inside,” Jasper invited.
“Thank you.”
As soon as they sat down, Stella decided not to keep the secret.
“Why are you looking at me like that?” Jasper asked.
“Dad, I found your sister.”
Jasper froze. He stared at her in disbelief. “Who did you find?”
“Your sister–the real Amber.”
Jasper’s mouth fell open. He was too shocked to speak, his lips trembling with nervous excitement.
He knew his mother had died of depression–grieving over his sister’s supposed death and having to raise his father’s late lover’s daughter for years.
“She’s Nadia,” Stella said.
Jasper blinked repeatedly, muttering, “Nadia… Nadia…”

“Remember the woman I told you looks just like Grandma?”
“Yes! Now I remember,” he said.
Jasper closed his eyes, trying to calm down. “All these years… they kept it hidden so well. Your grandma died with this regret.”
He stood up, pacing back and forth, clearly agitated.
“Dad, are you okay?” Stella asked.
“I can’t recognize her yet,” he said firmly.
“Why not?”
“I need to make sure she won’t hurt my daughter.”
Stella froze for a second, then smiled–her heart filled with warmth.
“The Corbin patriarch invited me to his 90th birthday party. Should I go?” Jasper asked.
“Of course you should,” Stella replied without hesitation.
She linked her arm through his. “Dad, I’ll go with you.”
“No, it’s too dangerous,” he argued.
“If I don’t go, do you think they’ll leave me alone? You must know how many people have been looking for me this week.”
“Stella, what do you want to do?”
Stella grinned. “I want to face them. I need to wrap this up quickly so I can marry Elias in peace. I don’t want my wedding to be full of drama.”
“It won’t be I promise,” Elias said, squeezing her hand tightly, his voice sincere.

“I believe you.” Stella squeezed back, her face radiating happiness.
Jasper was thrilled to see his daughter so happy. “Don’t worry. Your wedding will be romantic, warm, and perfect. I’ll make sure no one ruins it.”
“Thank you, Dad.”
A flicker of sadness crossed Jasper’s face. Nicole, if only you were here to see this.

He pushed the feeling aside, forcing a smile so he wouldn’t upset Stella. “Elias, how’s the wedding planning going?”
“It’s almost done.”
“Use only the best–my daughter deserves nothing less.”
“I know.”

Lily brought out fruit and pastries. Both men picked up a piece and handed it to Stella first. She looked at them, smiling happily.
“Thank you, Dad. Thank you, Elias.”
She took one in each hand, savoring the sweet treats.
As they talked, Stella drifted off to sleep.
Seeing how tired she was, Elias decided to go home–he’d spend the night with a cold shower to control his desires.
He gently stroked her head, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.
“Asleep?” Jasper whispered, lowering his voice instinctively.
“Yeah.”
“Hurry, carry her upstairs to rest,” Jasper urged.
“Okay.”
