Chapter 65 The Thornes‘ Bitter Regret

“Aunt. Do you have any idea how many people would line up to support Stella? What you did didn’t just offend the Shaw family–you managed to piss off power players across every industry.”
Amber didn’t look concerned. She let out a cold laugh. “She has that kind of pull?”
“She absolutely does.”
Leo was grinding his teeth so hard his jaw ached.
He actually respected Stella, in a strange way.
The reason the Moore family had become a public joke came down to his aunt’s complete lack of judgment.
But still–Stella had guts. Real guts.
“So what are we supposed to do now?”
Amber caught the tension in his expression and started to realize this might be serious.
She’d spent her whole life in Azure Peak City getting whatever she wanted. Then this girl–this nobody from some rural town–shows up and makes her look like a fool on national television.
“Aunt. If you’re serious about apologizing, the best thing you can do is keep your mouth shut from now
on.”
Leo was beyond frustrated.
This could have been a perfect partnership with Stella. Now? Ruined.
Apologizing? Since when did the Moore family grovel?
News broke that Stella had voluntarily reported herself to the authorities. Given her cooperation, she only received a formal warning.
Online, people flooded the comments praising the officers for handling it fairly.
“Stella. These are the donations that came in today.”
Tess hadn’t expected this at all.
Not only had her boss‘ public confrontation brought in a flood of new funding, but it also humiliated Amber in the process.
The only downside? Now that everyone knew about the miracle doctor identity, there was no telling what kind of chaos that would bring.
“Not bad.”

Stella smiled.
Now that her secret was out, the Shaw family would probably come looking for her on their own, wouldn’t they?
“There’s also one from Elias. A personal donation. One billion to the Shaw Foundation.”
Stella paused. Her eyes–those striking, expressive eyes–fixed on him.
“You-”
“Stella. I’m four years older than you, but I don’t have your vision. Today you taught me something I won’t forget. Consider this my tuition.”
“Tuition that expensive… you’re not going to turn around and sue me for fraud later, are you?”
She said it like a joke.
“Not all of us in the one percent are heartless. I’m not, anyway.”
Stella tilted her head slightly, a gleam in her eye. “Well then. I’ll have to get to know you properly.”
Elias blinked.
then he looked again, she was already walking away.
mall smile tugged at the corner of his mouth.
By the time Amelia showed up, only Elias and his security team were still standing there.
She reached up and physically wiped the smile off his face.
Elias sighed, shaking her off, his expression flattening.
She nodded approvingly. “There. That’s my brother. What was that dopey grin about earlier?”
“What are you doing here?”
Amelia glanced around, clearly disappointed not to see Stella.
“Elias. Are you into someone?”
“Stay away from her.”
“So… that’s a yes.”
She clapped him on the shoulder. “Not bad. That girl’s incredible. Amber must be dying of humiliation right now.”
“I’m going back to the office.”
“Wait etell me everything. How’d it happen?”

“Nothing’s happened yet.”
“Elias, you’re slipping. You haven’t won her over yet? Since when are you this slow? If you like her, pursue her properly.”
Elias just walked away.
Amelia hurried after him. “Hey–when are you taking her out? I want to thank her for saving my son.”
“Amelia. Don’t meet her.”
Amelia touched her face, confused. “Do I really look that terrifying?”
When she looked up again, he was gone.
She shook her head. “I raised that boy with perfect manners. How did he turn out like this?”
“The anonymous miracle doctor–the one every major player in the city was desperate to impress–was Stella all along.”
Arthur pressed a hand to his chest, his aged face twisting with regret.
The one person who could have elevated the Thorne family had been right there. And he’d pushed her away with his own hands.
“This Stella… she was top of her class. When everyone called her uneducated, useless, barely literate–why didn’t she say anything?
“She’s clearly a songwriter, so why hide it?
“And now it turns out she’s the miracle doctor–the one who can pull people back from the edge–and every power player in the city wants her on their side.
