Chapter 191

Chapter 191

LEONIE’S POV

The heavy front door clicked shut. The sound echoed loudly through the empty house as Julian left for his father’s estate. I stood perfectly still, listening closely until the sound of his car engine started up.

I watched through the window as he drove down the long driveway and disappeared from sight.

The very second he was gone, the nice, supportive, and caring face I had been wearing all morning disappeared completely.

A slow, cold smirk spread across my lips.

To hell with trying to make him happy. To hell with wanting peace. I absolutely hated Aria, and I hated that stupid, miserable little brat Amelia even more.

They had done nothing but ruin my life, destroy my peace of mind, and mess up my home from the exact moment they came back into town.

But I was not stupid. I knew how to play my cards right. I knew that if I showed my anger openly or acted crazy upfront, Julian would just push me away.

He would defend them, shut me out completely, and make sure he would never be mine. So, I had to play a very smart, very long game. I would use Julian and the entire Vance family to completely take out Aria and Amelia for me.

And when everything was destroyed and the dust finally settled, I would be the only shoulder he had left to cry

The plan was incredibly simple. Julian believed, like a total lovesick idiot, that Aria would just follow Amelia and come straight back to him once he won the child in court.

He truly thought they would be a happy little family again. But I was going to make absolutely sure he lost that custody case. I would pull the strings from the dark so the Vances suffered a massive, embarrassing loss in front of everyone.

That way, Aria would see Julian as nothing but a pathetic, weak loser who tried to steal her child and failed miserably. She would never look at him or respect him again.

And once he was entirely broken, rejected by his true love, and completely miserable, I would step in. I would play the role of the perfect, loyal, and loving wife who stood by him through all the public shame and heartbreak.

Julian would have no choice but to open his eyes and see that I am the only woman who has ever truly loved him through thick and thin.

I already had a massive advantage in this war. I had a mole placed directly inside Aria’s house, watching her every single move and reporting back to me. It was only a matter of time before everything fell perfectly into place.

Five years ago, when Aria suddenly disappeared into thin air and Julian finally married me, I felt so much happiness. I thought I had finally won the prize. But that joy was very short-lived.

Even when we were in bed together, even when we fucked and he held me tight in his arms, he moaned Aria’s name into the dark. Not mine. Aria’s.

For years, I foolishly believed that I could change him with time. I thought my love, my beauty, and my devotion would be enough to make him see me and forget about her.

But he was so completely obsessed with Aria that he didn’t see me standing right in front of him. He treated me like a ghost in my own home.

But I was done being invisible. I was done taking his crumbs. I would make absolutely sure Aria never came back to him. I was his legal wife, and I was never going to give up my position, my wealth, or my husband to someone like that.

Chapter 191

As I sat on the stool in the kitchen, turning the plan over in my mind, my phone began to ring loudly against the marble counter. I picked it up, and when I looked at the screen, I saw that it was Julian’s mother calling me. I took a deep breath, instantly changing my expression and making my voice sound sweet, soft, and calm before answering the phone. “Hello, Mother.”

“Leonie, dear,” the older woman’s voice came through the speaker, sounding a bit excited and rushed. “How are you doing? I’m calling you because Julian was just here at the house. He actually agreed to support the custody case!”

I smirked darkly into the empty room, but I kept my tone completely sweet, gentle, and glad for her sake. “Oh, really? Wow. Okay, that is very good news.”

I played the role of a dutiful, perfect daughter-in-law, making my voice sound entirely supportive of the family’s wishes. “As long as your grandchild is taken away from Aria, then everything will be perfectly fine. She doesn’t deserve to keep a Vance child hidden away from us anyway.”

The older woman paused on the other end, her tone softening with a bit of real sympathy for me. “And how are you holding up, dear? I know this entire situation must be so incredibly hard on you.”

This was my perfect chance to play the victim. I squeezed my eyes shut and faked a sad, ragged sniffle into the phone. “I’m trying to be strong for the family, Mother. It’s just… Julian still loves Aria so much. I can feel it every single day. I feel completely invisible in my own husband’s home, and I’m scared.”

“Oh, sweetie, please don’t worry about that girl at all,” Julian’s mother immediately told me, her voice full of fierce reassurance. “Julian did put down some silly conditions today. He demanded that we don’t touch Aria’s company and that we play fair in court. And his father just agreed to all of it at the surface just to keep him happy and compliant for now.”

She let out a dry, mean laugh before continuing. “But his father has a real, hidden plan, Leonie. Once we win the custody case and take the child, Aria will disappear from our lives for good. His father will make sure she is completely ruined and driven away so she can never come back. I promise you, Leonie, you will always be our only daughter-in-law. Aria will never come back into Julian’s life again.”
