Chapter 420
“That was impressive.”
“I said shut up.”
“You almost died.”
“I tripped.”
“Same thing.”

I walked back toward him, breathing hard, my chest rising and falling as I pointed at him.
“You try running on this uneven ground for hours and let’s see how graceful you look.”
“I already did.”
“That doesn’t count, you’re-” I stopped myself.
“I’m what?”
“Annoying,” I finished.
He raised an eyebrow.
“That’s not what you were going to say,”
“It is.”
“It wasn’t.”
I turned away from him again.
“It was.”
“Rory-”
“Don’t Rory me.”
“Then don’t almost fall on your face.”
“I didn’t fall.”
“You were very close.”
I spun back around.
“You are impossible.”

Chapter 420
“And you’re still not done.”
1 groaned loudly.
“This never ends, does it?”
“No.”
I dropped my head back, staring up at the sky for a second before letting out a long breath.
“I’m going to collapse.”
“Not yet.”
“I hate this.”
“I know.”
“I hate you.”
“I know.”
“…Stop agreeing with me.”
“No.”
I let out a frustrated sound and walked past him, dropping down onto the ground again without being told this time.
“Just tell me what to do,” I muttered.
There was a small pause.
Then, quieter-
“That’s new.”
I ignored that.
By the time the sun had started lowering, everything in my body felt like it had been replaced with something heavier, slower, completely done with existing.
I walked back inside without even waiting for him, my steps slower now, dragging slightly as the warmth of the house hit my skin agam, making the exhaustion settle even deeper.
“I’m done,” I muttered.
“For today,” he corrected behind me.

Chapter 420
“For life.”
“That’s dramatic.”
“I mean it.”
I didn’t even wait for a response as I moved toward the stairs, my entire body aching in ways I didn’t think were physically possible.
“Where are you going?” he asked.
“Shower,” I said over my shoulder.
“Good idea.”
“No talking,” I added.
“I wasn’t-”
“No talking.”
“Okay.”
I didn’t even look back as I disappeared upstairs, pushing the bathroom door open and stepping inside before closing it behind me, the quiet finally
wrapping around me again.
For a second, I just stood there.
Breathing.
Still.
