The Indifferent Ex-Husband Heartstrings in the Mall of Fate (Brandon and Sophia) novel Chapter 726

"Yeah, he's with me right now," Sophia quickly replied to the message.

Brandon looked up from his coffee. "Who?"

"Kent," Sophia said, turning her phone screen toward him. "He's asking if I’m joining you for the company gala tonight."

Brandon glanced at the screen, then back at her. "So, are you coming?"

Sophia hesitated, shaking her head slightly. "I haven't thought about it yet."

She then asked, a bit worried, "Is it a big fancy thing? Like one of those formal dinners?"

Brandon seemed to ponder for a moment before nodding. "Yeah, it's a formal dinner. The Starlight Group's gala is a mix of year-end relaxation for the staff and a chance to mingle with important clients. It's all about networking, so it’s more of a buffet-style event."

Sophia frowned, a bit conflicted. "If I go with you, won’t we just be the center of attention?"

Walking alongside Brandon would be like walking with a spotlight; all eyes would be on them wherever they went.

Brandon chuckled. "Are you scared?"

Sophia shook her head. "Not scared, just not used to all the attention."

"Then don’t go," Brandon said casually. "It's not that big of a deal."

Sophia eyed his casual attire. "You're not planning on going either, are you?"

Typically, for such a major event, he would already be getting ready. As the head of Starlight Group, he represented the company, and showing up in casual clothes wasn’t an option.

"Just a company gala," he shrugged. "Kent’s got it covered."

He rarely attended public events, and when he did, it was solo. He’d show up, fulfill his obligations, and leave promptly, so he’d never thought of bringing her along.

The company gala was no different.

He attended each year but only to deliver a brief formal speech as the company’s head. Afterward, he’d greet a few key clients and then slip away. He’d never had the thought to introduce her as his wife or bring her along.

It wasn’t about hiding their marriage or her status as his wife; it was just that business was business, and personal life was personal. Their marriage was private, needing no public acknowledgment.

Brandon didn’t know if Sophia had ever wanted to join him at a gala before, or if she’d ever felt disappointed when he never asked. They’d never discussed it.

They had been married for two years, yet at times it felt like they’d never been married at all.
