The Indifferent Ex-Husband Heartstrings in the Mall of Fate (Brandon and Sophia) novel Chapter 730

Hannah's words had a hint of something more.

Sophia just gave a small smile. "A lot of people say that. But it doesn't bother me, as long as my husband and daughter still see me as who I used to be."

"Your husband?"

Hannah raised an eyebrow, scrutinizing Sophia with a curious look.

Sophia found Hannah's gaze a bit strange and was about to speak when Hannah interrupted, "Didn't Brandon tell you that you two are divorced?"

Sophia was taken aback and looked at Hannah, who quickly gave an apologetic smile. "Oops, I thought he told you."

"I remember you divorced Brandon before you went abroad for school," Hannah continued, glancing at Theresa. "We were all surprised, just like when you two had a whirlwind wedding. But I guess it made sense at the time, since you had an unexpected pregnancy, and Brandon was always a responsible guy. Naturally, he'd want to do right by you."

Sophia couldn't help but frown. A marriage because of an unexpected pregnancy?

She turned to look at Theresa, holding her hand. Her age didn't match what Hannah was describing, so that child...

Sophia felt a dull ache in her chest.

Hannah seemed lost in her own memories. "It's quite unfortunate, really. You married because of a child, yet you ended up losing that connection."

Hannah glanced at Theresa again. "But you're lucky in the end, having such a smart and beautiful daughter. It's kind of a dramatic tale, isn't it? You two had been divorced and out of touch for two years, and no one knew you secretly had a child. Brandon didn't either. We even ended up on a blind date together, and then suddenly, you appeared with a daughter, Brandon's daughter."

Hannah shook her head with a chuckle, perhaps marveling at the twists of fate or subtly hinting at her own suspicion of Sophia's intentions.

Sophia was too overwhelmed to judge. Hannah's information was a lot to take in, and it was hard to digest.

This version of the past was quite different from the one Brandon had told her.

In Hannah's version, she and Brandon married because of a baby, but after losing the child, the marriage fell apart. Later, Sophia secretly had Theresa without telling Brandon.

During the two years after their divorce, she and Brandon lived separate lives without contact. Brandon even went on dates to start anew, but then she showed up with Theresa, and Brandon, feeling responsible, got involved with her again.

Despite Hannah's words being just one side of the story, Sophia couldn't shake the feeling that they might be closer to the truth, especially remembering the bittersweet emotions she felt when she first saw Brandon again and their somewhat distant relationship since then.

Brandon seemed to have crafted a rosy tale for her.

Theresa sensed something was off with Sophia and squeezed her hand, her small voice filled with worry. "Mommy?"

The woman had been talking for a long time and quickly, and Theresa, with her young mind, couldn't keep up with what was being said. But she could tell something was up with her mom.

With that, Sophia nodded politely, holding Theresa close as she headed to the children's dining area.

Theresa looked back at Hannah, who stood there, a mix of emotions on her face, and whispered to Sophia, "Mommy, who was that lady?"

"Just an old classmate of mine," Sophia explained softly, as "classmate" seemed the most fitting way to describe her relationship with Hannah.

"That lady doesn't seem too happy," Theresa whispered in Sophia's ear. "Why is she upset?"

Sophia turned and gave her a reassuring smile. "I'm not sure, sweetie. Maybe she's just got a lot on her mind."

"Oh," Theresa nodded, trying to process the information. She hugged Sophia’s neck and tilted her head as she asked, "I think that lady seemed like she was being mean to you earlier."

Sophia chuckled softly and stroked her daughter's hair, her voice soothing. "Don’t worry, no one can be mean to your mom. I still have to protect my little Theresa, you know."

The gentle promise of "protect my little Theresa" made Theresa's eyes twinkle with delight. She nodded vigorously. "Yeah."

She squeezed Sophia’s neck tighter, leaning in with a serious look, she whispered in her ear, "My mom is the best mom ever."
