Cindy was still crying, but she couldn’t help glancing up at Sophia on the stage, her eyes swollen and red.
Sophia stood beside Brandon, his fingers tightly interlaced with hers. She had already regained her composure after her initial shock and was now turning her head to look at Brandon.
Brandon held the microphone in one hand, his gaze calm as he surveyed the crowd. After a brief summary of the branch’s achievements and challenges over the past year, he spoke in a steady, resonant voice. “It’s thanks to everyone’s hard work that Starlight Group has come this far. I want to thank each of you for your dedication and effort, and I also want to thank my wife, Sophia, for her unwavering support behind the scenes all these years.”
As he spoke, Brandon turned slightly toward Sophia.
The moment his words landed, a wave of murmurs swept through the room.
Ever since Brandon had handed out sweets to celebrate the birth of his daughter, everyone at the company had been speculating about the child’s mother, and whether Brandon was married. There had always been rumors—some claimed he was married, others insisted he wasn’t—but there had never been any confirmation, leaving everyone guessing.
This was the first time Brandon had publicly acknowledged his marriage.
Sophia stared at him, stunned. Her hand trembled slightly in his, but Brandon only tightened his grip.
Holding her hand firmly, Brandon looked out at the surprised faces in the audience and continued, his tone gentle but clear. “There have been rumors about my personal life, some true, some not, and they’ve caused my wife and child unnecessary hurt—and, to some, given rise to unrealistic hopes. So tonight, I want to clear the air. Sophia and I have known each other since childhood, grew up together, went to high school together, and we’ve been married for over five years. We have a child. Although our careers kept us apart for a while, it never changed what we mean to each other. If anything, it only made us realize how important we truly are to one another.”
The crowd erupted in applause, everyone suddenly looking at Sophia with envy—as the woman standing behind Brandon.
Sophia had no choice but to smile in response.
Hannah stood in the crowd, her lips pressed in a tight line as she watched Sophia and Brandon on stage, frozen in place.
She understood exactly what Brandon was doing: he was making things clear for Sophia, publicly declaring his commitment, making sure everyone knew he was married. Even if he and Sophia hadn’t officially remarried, he was making it clear that any hope anyone else had was pointless.
Amid the applause, Brandon handed the microphone back to the emcee and, still holding Sophia’s hand, led her down from the stage.
