Chapter 133

ISIDORA

And here we were again, fighting over who would become the next Alpha.

Only this time, it wasn’t being handled in a private setting like before.

This time, those elders had decided to hold it in the central square, with everyone present, as if they were afraid of making decision that might anger the people.

I sat calmly in the front row, separated from everyone else like a distinguished guest.

I wore my dark Estingia uniform, looking around while thinking about everything Blaze had discovered from that servant and how today might end.

There were too many moving pieces, and I couldn’t help feeling a little worried. Lucio might be far more cunning than 1 had imagined.

“We are gathered here today to finally choose our next leader!” the head elder announced, rising behind the long table where the council sat.

“The LookWood brothers were the strongest Alpha candidates selected, but unfortunately… only one of them can lead.” He gestured toward Lucio and Efrain, who stood in the middle of the huge cleared square.

Behind the guards keeping the perimeter, the ordinary people of the pack watched everything like it was free entertainment.

The higher-ranking members whispered among themselves in the chairs behind me.

Of course, my Blaze stood behind me, intimidating everyone.

“After meeting, this council has determined that the next Alpha of the Midnight Pack will be….”

“Wait, Elders!” Lucio’s voice cut them off, and I knew the drama was coming.

“I believe you should first allow our Estingia guest, my brother’s supporter, to speak. Perhaps she thought things over and decided to support the better option,” he said, right in front of the elder’s frown.

Of course, every gaze turned toward me, including Efraín’s worried one and Lucio’s clever one.

“Lady Isidora, do you… have something to add?” the elder asked me respectfully.

“Me?” I pointed to myself calmly. “Oh, of course. Perhaps I forgot something important.”

I added it carelessly as I stood, straightened my back, and looked directly at Lucio.

“I forgot to inform you that, as the owner of the LookWood factory, Efraín LookWood transferred half of the property into my name. So I won’t only be a business partner. I’m a true owner.”

A wave of exclamations spread through the square.

“That’s a lie. The business still belongs to my husband! Efraín can’t just hand out our assets like that! My husband won’t agree to this when he comes back!” Lucio’s mother, sitting behind me, suddenly found her poisonous voice again.

Apparently, the scare I gave her yesterday wasn’t enough.

“My father left me as the owner of the factory, and I can transfer it to whomever I want,” Efrain answered firmly.

At least he was starting to show a little character and defend himself.

“In any case, I will support the future Alpha Efrain with everything I have, and I will help this pack prosper, since I already feel part of it,” I announced calmly, looking straight into Lucio’s eyes, which seemed to want me dead.

However, a cynical smile appeared on his face, and I knew he was about to play the card he had hidden up his sleeve.

“Well, the only reason Efrafn has surpassed me is because of the supposed special material that enhances Dream Powder, something given to him by the Estingia Isidora.” He snapped his fingers, calling one of his guards, who came forward carrying something wrapped in cloth.

“And as it turns out, I found that enhancer too. Efrain isn’t the only one with a powerful ally.”

Calmly, he removed the cloth from what his warrior was holding, and of course, it was none other than the same chest Blaze had stored in one of the treasury chambers.

He had listened to what I told Blaze last night and gone straight for the bait.

“Here it is. The secret ingredient,” he said, confidently opening the wooden lid of the same plain chest his father had hidden with his men.

Luckily, it had no logo, no mark, nothing that could identify it. Just a rough wooden chest.
