Chapter 157
Chapter 157
ISIDORA
“Mmm…” A moan slipped from my lips as I woke in complete darkness.
A hiss of pain escaped me almost right after, and I looked down at my bandaged hand.
Memories came back in flashes.

Searching for my weapon. The tearing pain that had run through me when I gripped it. That lycan losing control. The Estingia woman.
What had all of that meant? Had I really managed to tame that magnificent sword?
I looked around, still confused, but from the shapes in the darkness. I recognized my room.
Then, all at once, a stare too cold and intense made me turn my head toward a shadowed corner.
Golden eyes watched me from the gloom, but they had a wild reddish tint.
“Blaze?” I called out, uncertain.
I’ll admit it, with a little fear because of the sharp aura coming off him.
“What happened? Did you bring me back to the room?”
“Would my lady have preferred that I carry her straight to her grave?” he asked in a hard tone. “Do you truly want to die that badly, Isidora?!”
He took a step forward, and the faint light from the fireplace illuminated his face, twisted with fury, his canines bared and his eyes like a beast’s.
I carefully backed against the headboard. I had never truly felt threatened by Blaze before.
“Of course I don’t want to die. Why are you being so aggressive?”
“You’re still asking me why?!” His steps were so fast that in a second, he was leaning over me at the edge of the bed.
“Look at yourself!” He pushed me back against the pillows and lifted the loose robe I was wearing.
My torso was covered in medicine and bandages, and I recognized the medicinal scent I always caught from the old woman. She had healed me.
“Can you imagine how I found you inside that armory? Your body covered in wounds, your arm almost hanging from your shoulder. You were bleeding from every pore!”
He grabbed my shoulders and forced me to look at his desperate, terrified face.
He had been afraid I would die. But I had done it for him too.
“Blaze.”
“I know you want to be powerful, but sacrificing your life like that is stupid!” He suddenly released me as if he were disappointed, and something flared inside my chest.
Too many feelings at once

Chapter 157
“I won’t follow a woman who plays with her own safety….”

“Then don’t follow me, and go to hell already!” I roared, exploding at last, sick of his riddles and of always being afraid I would lose him.
He stepped back, caught off guard by my outburst, but I had more to say.
I shoved the blanket aside and fought through the pain to stand.
“Yes, I risked my life. Yes, I’m a reckless madwoman because I live terrified that the man I love will leave my side!” I roared, shoving him again and making him step back with a frown.
“I want to be strong enough to help you, strong enough to deserve standing beside you, strong enough for you to trust he and stop hiding who you are from me!” Treacherous tears began to fall.
“You told me you would give me a chance when I became powerful. How the hell do you expect me to do that if I don’t take risks?!”
“Isidora…” He said my name the way he rarely did, trying to take a step forward, but now I was the one who didn’t want to hear any more accusations or insults.
I slapped his hand away in a burst of rage, then wiped my tears.
“Now you know how I feel every time I think you’re going to leave me forever.”
My words came out firm, and I fought back the sob choking me as we stared at each other in the shadowed room.
I waited for him to say it wasn’t true. For him to confess something. Anything.
But Blaze only pressed his lips together, and storms moved in his eyes.
He stubbornly refused to say a word, and I was already tired of expecting anything else.
“So if I’m an idiot or stupid or whatever else, that isn’t your problem. Never forget who the mistress is here, and when you get tired of pretending to be my slave…”
I clenched my fists so tightly I felt the sting of my claws opening my palms.
My lips trembled, and he just stood there, waiting for my words.
But I didn’t dare say them.
I didn’t dare tell him to leave my life because that terrified me.
I turned my back on him and walked toward the door, wanting to escape, but a stronger arm closed it when I tried to open it.
“I’ll leave the room. I won’t bother you. Don’t leave. You’re still hurt… you need to rest.” His tense voice sounded behind me, and his presence loomed over my back.
His aura lowered those sharp edges, and I could almost feel it moving over my skin like a caress.
But this time, I didn’t give in so easily.
