ISIDORA

“Is it because of something we did wrong?”

I quickened my pace whetr heard Mikaela’s voice in front of the greenhouse.

“No. Orders from Madam. You don’t have anything to do today. You can take the day off,” one of the “workers” answered, the one with the wildest red hair.

“Good morning. Is Madam all right?” My eyes locked with his serious ones, and he nodded.

His gaze barely shifted for a second to Blaze, who followed me in silence, and I saw the worker give him a subtle nod.

“The day off is for everyone, but Madam wanted to know how Lady Isidora was feeling,” he said as I stopped beside the girls.

“I’m fine. Please send Madam my thanks,” I said, tightening my grip on the hilt of the sword at my side.

So in the end, I really had gotten it.

The exchange didn’t last long, and soon it was just us.

Though I noticed that a few steps behind Karla, a man with warm brown skin and soft honey-colored eyes had stopped.

I looked at him briefly, and he studied me too before lowering his head.

“Oh, Goddess, I thought they’d kicked us out!” Mikaela slapped a hand dramatically against her chest. “We have news for you, Dora!”

She came closer and grabbed my arm, but a low hiss slipped out of my throat. I still hadn’t healed all the way.

“What happened?”

“Are you hurt?”

They both noticed right away and tried to lift my sleeve, but I caught their hands.

“It’s nothing. Just a few bruises.” As soon as I said that, a low snort sounded behind me, but I ignored Blaze.

Since what happened yesterday, I only spoke to him when I had to, and the truth was, I was exhausted from the half-toxic thing we had going on.

“Ah!” Mikaela suddenly cried out and jerked back, touching the hand where a red mark was starting to form.

“What happened?”

“Mika, what happened?”

Karla and I moved closer, worried, but Mika kept staring at the hilt of the sheathed sword on my belt.

“I barely brushed it, but it felt like a red-hot jolt burned my hand.” They both looked back at my troublesome sword.

“I had something to tell you too. Yesterday, I got my weapon… surprise!,” I said with a slightly uncomfortable laugh.

The truth was, I hadn’t told them anything, and I’ll admit we still had to work on the whole trust thing.

“Seriously? You’re the best, Dora!” Mikaela had already forgotten the pain and was about to throw her arms around my neck,

but something made her stop.

“It’s… it has kind of a terrifying aura,” she said, freezing in place. “I think trouble follows you around.”

She gave a small laugh, making discreet gestures toward Blaze, and I understood her perfectly.

“Seems like it,” I huffed. “It’s a special kind of weapon. Better not touch it, girls.”

“It’s a very powerful weapon. I can feel its dark energy from here,” Karla said, and her sharpness caught me off guard. But then I expanded my senses and noticed she was different too.

“You managed to… did you manage to bloom with the help of the tonic?” I asked, excited.

“Yes, yes, that’s what we wanted to tell you! Karla did it. She managed it thanks to that method you gave us too, and she didn’t hurt her slave!”
