Chapter 211

Chapter 211

ISIDORA

I’d been close to death many times in my life.

3117

I’d been beaten since I was a child by higher-ranking servants or whichever mistress I happened to serve at the time.

Then Marion made sure I learned to be grateful for every day I was still alive and breathing, because any one of those days could be my last.

If a slave, a servant, or even a squire disappeared from the Estingia pack, no one cared.

No one would investigate. No one would cry for them. No one would seek revenge.

But this time… I’d never felt this awful before.

I felt my body shutting down and that light becoming a doorway to the world of the dead.

But by then, my body had already found its own way to survive, and my instincts had gotten much sharper.

FLASHBACK

“I don’t know. I wish my wolf could do something besides create clones. Something like the move Arlene used. That power was incredible…”

“It’s just a trick, you stupid Estingia,” my mentor said from the table, where she sat smoking without a care in the world.

Meanwhile, I was up to my elbows in dirt, turning over one of the garden beds.

“A trick?” I asked with a frown.

“Don’t underestimate the she-wolves your power creates. Right now, one or two are enough for you to defeat even an Alpha or another Estingia. Imagine what you could do with ten…. or a hundred…”

I stared into her dark eyes, imagining myself in the middle of such a powerful army.

“That would be incredible… and impossible.”

Controlling two of those scarlet she-wolves already made me sweat buckets. I didn’t even want to imagine trying to create a hundred…

“With that attitude, the only thing you’ll be good for is fertilizing my plants…” she snorted.

I made a face when she looked away.

I went back to the garden bed, but her words kept running through my head.

“If it’s just a trick… could you teach me?” I asked quietly, although something told me that favor wasn’t going to come cheap.

“Of course I can, but in return, I want a share of your Dream Dust business.”

1 grimaced. That greedy old woman never missed a chance to sink her teeth into anything involving money.

I was planning to ask her to protect the business by claiming it belonged to her anyway.

Chapter 211

The pack Alpha was always pressuring me. After all, I was still an Estingla with no reputation, and I wasn’t nearly strong enough.

But Legna… Lady Legna was a name everyone knew… and feared.

“Deal”

END OF FLASHBACK

My eyes snapped open, and it felt like I was looking up from the bottom of an abyss.

I couldn’t move because of the pain tearing through my stomach.

Blood kept pouring from the wound, while more kept coming up my throat and choking me.

I was at the bottom of the pit. I’d missed being impaled on one of those spikes by only a few inches.

Then I remembered what had saved me.

I’d used the same trick Arlene had used, disappearing and reappearing somewhere else.

But my energy was almost completely gone, and I felt like I could bleed to death at any moment.

I tried to get up, but I collapsed again.

“Don’t move…”

I barely had time to react before a huge shadow appeared above me….

It was Blaze.

“Bla…”

“Don’t talk. Don’t waste your strength. Damn it… I’m going to save you. Stay with me… hold on…

His arms trembled as he carefully wrapped them around me and lifted me.

I still don’t know how he managed to get down into such a deep pit so fast, but he saved me.

The next time I opened my eyes, I was in some kind of infirmary.

The white ceiling was the first thing my blurry eyes managed to focus on.

The pain in my stomach had eased, but I still felt awful.

“Mmnn…”

I tried to sit up, but even that small movement took too much effort.

A firm hand supported my back and helped me rest against the headboard.

I looked beside me, and there was Blaze.

He looked so serious, it scared me.

“I lost the competition…”

Chapter 211

Those were the first words out of my mouth as I started to understand what that meant

4×4

“That’s what you’re worried about?” he snapped through clenched teeth. “Don’t you understand that you almost died! What the fuck were you thinking?!”

The last question came out as a roar, like he’d been holding it in for far too long.

I didn’t even flinch under the weight of his aura.

I only lowered my gaze to my fists as they tightened around the sheet.

“What were you doing off to the side of the arena, talking to that warrior?”

I asked coldly, throwing the same anger right back at him.

But Blaze didn’t answer.

He jumped to his feet so fast that the chair fell over with a crash.

I looked up to face him.

“So that’s why you got distracted during such an important fight? You saw me talking to someone else and decided to throw your life away?”

His accusations filled me with anger and helplessness,

He was making me feel pathetic.

“Sometimes I honestly think I’ve expected too much from you all this time…”

When he said that and stepped back, my heart lurched.

“What are you talking about? I didn’t…”

“Is this how you plan to keep your promise to protect me? You can’t even protect yourself, and you just lost…” His lips twisted with contempt.

That disappointment in his eyes made me feel so small.

“Blaze, you can’t… you can’t look at me like that…”

A knot formed in my throat before I could stop it.

All those horrible feelings came rushing back and made me feel like shit again.

“Then how am I supposed to look at a woman who just risked her life over something so stupid…?”

I shook my head. I wanted to explain, but I couldn’t deny that I’d done something stupid.

I’d gotten distracted in the middle of the fight and almost died because of it. That was my fault.

But I wasn’t crazy, either.

Blaze had been pulling away from me for days, talking in secret and treating me like I’d suddenly become a burden.

Something was going on, even if he wanted me to believe it was all in my head.

Chapter 211

“You once asked me what I wanted… Do you know what I want now?”

I didn’t answer. I knew his next words would destroy me.

“I want to go to the capital. I thought you could make it happen, but you lost… I guess I’ll have to find another way
