Chapter 24
Chapter 24
ISIDORA
What were you doing in the bathroom? What were you doing in the bathroom?
What were you doing in the bathroom?…
The question kept playing on a loop in my head even after 1 was already curled up in bed.
68 your hee
I gripped the edge of the blanket while my gaze kept slipping through the sheer curtains to the shadow lying on the floor against the wall where the chains were bolted.
There was Blaze, asleep on the blankets I’d laid out for him.
My cheeks still burned.
I’d answered him all nervous, telling him it was none of his business, when I knew damn well he’d heard me.
Wasn’t that what I wanted deep down… to provoke him? Wasn’t that why I’d moaned like that, so shamelessly?
“Blessed Goddess, Isidora, you’re completely losing your mind.” I turned onto my side, carefully so I wouldn’t make any noise, even though something told me he wasn’t really asleep.
I stared into the darkness, my mind a complete mess.
On top of everything else, I was worried about how I was going to make money. Now I felt responsible for Blaze and Elessia.
And Blaze hadn’t eaten. I’d barely managed to wet his lips with a soaked bit of cotton I slipped through that damned muzzle.
He looked very strong, but how could they keep a living creature without food or water just to weaken him?
I clenched my teeth, thinking about how unfair and merciless this pack was. Was the world outside just as cruel?
Then Lucio and his “friends” in that stable came back to me…
Yeah, outside these walls, the world was even worse. The law of the strongest, the most capable.
And soon I’d have to face all of that if I wanted to keep surviving.
I tossed and turned, restless, half afraid Blaze would slip loose and choke me in my sleep. In the end, exhaustion dragged me under.
I’d barely gotten any food down, and even I felt weak.
Truth was, I always slept horribly, and more than once I ended up falling out of my tiny little bed, but when I opened my eyes this time, I was lying properly in it.
The blanket was pulled all the way over me, which almost never happened when I woke up.
Weird… maybe I’d been so exhausted I just dropped onto the mattress and never moved.
Still rubbing my eyes, I pushed myself up fast and looked at Blaze’s makeshift bed.
My heart lurched when I didn’t see him where I’d left him last night.
