“We’d only taint his new position. Even though I offered to sever the bond, I think he’d rather silence me too, now that I have no one backing me.”
Elessia didn’t have time to keep crying in some corner.
All the more reason to run.
She got to her feet, but at that exact moment, a loud crash came from Isidora’s room.
They were looking for her. Soon, they would come hunting.
With the powerful Estingia’s scent masking her own, Elessia took off without stopping, with no idea where she was going.
The other warrior Estingias wasn’t safe either.
She’d been a fool to believe any of those women would help her.
They envied Isidora, her power, and her closeness to Legna.
Legna…
She had to reach the Estingia Tower and ask for protection.
With that in mind, Elessia managed to reach the servants‘ quarters and found a door leading outside.
But the moment she stepped beyond the courtyard and thought she could disappear into the forest, someone shouted from an upper window.
“There she is! That’s the woman!”
Elessia looked up in horror, pulling up the hood of Isidora’s cloak enough to see one of the warriors pointing at her.
“Run, Ele! Run!” Her wolf roared inside her head, and she obeyed.
The satchel filled with Isidora’s belongings weighed her down, and so did the cloak.
Still, she refused to leave either behind.
She jumped over a low fence and kept running toward the tree line.
Dawn was already near, but cold mist still drifted between the bushes.

They were chasing her, gaining on her with every second.
“Ah!”

The cloak snagged on a thornbush, sending Elessia crashing to the ground and scraping both knees.
The bundle slipped from her hands and rolled across the dirt. Sweat had plastered her hair to her face.
“You have to leave it behind! Shift, Elessia. Shift!”
“No! I can’t leave her things. I can’t!”
She pushed herself back up, crying as she gathered the keepsakes again.
The old book Isidora had become obsessed with tumbled across the ground.
Elessia bent down quickly to pick everything up, hearing the growls of wolves closing in on her.
She was done for.
But then Syla sensed something.
“I can smell Dora in that direction… and something else. It smells like this book.”
At her wolf’s words, Elessia changed course.
Clutching the satchel against her chest, she started running again, gasping for air. But she didn’t
get far.
They cornered her at the top of a rocky cliff. Below, the slope was covered in jagged stones leading down to part of the moat.
The edge of the island left her no way to escape toward the cemetery.
Two enormous wolves advanced on her, their fangs bared.
They offered no explanation.
“Please, let me go! I only want to leave. I swear I won’t say anything. No one will ever know!”
She screamed and begged, but nothing she said moved those men.
Their orders were clear.
Kill her and make sure she never spoke.
Elessia understood and tried to flee, but they pounced on her like rabid dogs.
Their claws shredded the cloak she treasured.
Isidora’s belongings, the ones she’d clung to so desperately, spilled across the ground, broken, trampled, and
stained with her blood.

She didn’t even have time to shift into her animal form, though a small Omega could’ve done little against two trained wolves.
There on the clifftop, they tore into her body as tears streamed down her face.
