I lowered my hand and touched his arm to let him know I was focused again.
Then I hurried down the steps and went after them into the hallway.
“Lady Mikaela, Lady Karla,” I called, and both of them turned to look at me with curiosity written all over their faces.
“I…” I paused, trying to shape the words before they came out. There it was again, that awful habit of overthinking everything. “I was wondering if I could join your team for the group exercises.”
Karla raised a wary brow, and the gesture made heat rush into my cheeks. Did they think I was getting full of myself just because I’d managed to activate my seal?
“Really?!” the little blonde blurted out. She stepped forward at once and grabbed both my hands, practically glowing with excitement.
“I was literally telling Karla we should invite you, but we thought that now that you’re all popular, you wouldn’t want to team up with us!” She scratched the back of her head, suddenly embarrassed.
“We’re dead last in the class, just so you know. I’m warning you now so you don’t regret it later,” Karla said in that blunt way of hers.

It felt good in a way I wasn’t used to. Not being rejected. Not being looked down on. Not being the girl people only noticed out of pity.
“Let’s work hard together,” I told her.
After that, Mikaela practically dragged me the whole way back, peppering me with question after question.
“Really, I wasn’t lying. It was just… compatibility with my slave,” I admitted, a little embarrassed.
Both of them glanced sideways at Blaze, who kept following me in silence.
Mikaela let out a frustrated sigh.
“He looks so obedient, even if he’s scary as hell… I’m already on my second slave. The first one… well, he tried to run, and he was… killed.” She said it with her eyes lowered.
Karla didn’t talk much, but it was obvious things weren’t going well for her either. Her slave seemed to be locked up in one
