Chapter 56
ISIDORA
When I dropped the coins into the woman’s hands at the counter, it felt like a weight had finally come off my soul.
I paid for the medicine and decided to buy everything we’d need for the trip, along with some new clothes for Elessia.
“That’s too heavy…” Blaze stopped me every time I tried to grab things I thought might be useful.
“This sleeping bag is better.” He questioned every choice I made, and honestly, I ended up trusting his judgment. I’d never gone into a dangerous forest on a mission like this before. We might not even get a chance to sleep. “Just take one…”
“But you…” I turned to him with a frown.
“Don’t worry about me, my lady. We need to travel light. I’ll keep watch…” he explained, but that didn’t make me feel any
better.
“We’ll both keep watch…”
“Take the sleeping bag…” he said in that low, authoritative voice of his, pulling the tightly rolled sack off the shelf.
He dropped it into the basket he was carrying and walked off like the discussion was over. I pressed my lips together, grateful the store looked almost empty at this hour.
In the end, we barely bought anything. Blaze kept insisting he could hunt and that he knew how to survive in the forest. It made me feel a little ashamed that all the comforts were for me.
So when it came to buying clothes for him, I wasn’t stingy. A sturdy pair of trousers, a black tunic, and a long leather coat that cost me quite a few coins.
If I was going outside with him, then he had to look impressive too.
“I need to try it on,” he said out of nowhere when I showed him the huge tunic, heavy enough on its own.
I looked toward a hallway that led to a more secluded part of the store. From the signs, it looked like the fitting rooms were back there.
“All right, let’s go over there,” I said, dropping the heavy piece into the basket.
“And we still need one more thing…”
“What?” I lifted my eyes and met his, full of bad intentions.
“Underwear, my lady. Unless you’ve forgotten I’ve been walking all over this pack with my balls out…” he murmured, leaning in close enough to make my face burn even hotter.
“O… of course…” I gritted out, swearing to myself that one of these days I was going to hit him back with something just as
shameless.
I found the men’s underwear section easily enough. This store didn’t carry much for men. Then again, not many Estingias bought decent things for their slaves.
