Chapter 33 The Last Villa

A middleaged manscruffy, wearing a pair of sophisticated glasses, and looking like he hadn’t had a square meal in ages -peered at her cautiously. Behind him stood a woman who looked just as haggard.

At this moment, a little girl, no more than five or six, poked her head out near his leg and stared at Iris curiously.

Her parents immediately shoved her back and shielded her from view.

Woof! Woof!

Cherry, Charlie, Lucy, and Molly immediately started barking at the people behind the

Enough,Iris said sharply, stopping the dogs. She looked the man up and down, then left him with a warning. Everywhere except this house is my territory. Don’t step a foot into it, or I’ll kill you.

With that, she turned and strode toward the last villa.

The man suddenly called out after her, There are zombies in there! Ones that eat people! Don’t go!

Irisstopped and glanced back at him. You know son thing? 42

I’ve seen it,the man said grimly, nodding. There was a party at that villa that day. A bunch of young people were drinking and having fun all night. Near dawn, we heard screaming. People came running out, covered in blood. They didn’t make it far before they were dragged down and bitten to death.

And what were you doing then?Iris asked.

We were terrified,he said. We locked ourselves inside and didn’t step out. Later, we realized they were zombies.

Irisgaze swept over his face, the door, the house, and the road outside, where dark, dried bloodstains still lingered. You’ve been surviving on stored supplies all this time?

The man pressed his cracked, peeling lips together and stayed silent, eyes full of caution.

At a time like this, no one would casually talk about their supplies.

Iris was wary of him, and he was just as wary of her.

When he said nothing more, Iris turned and headed for the last villa with the dogs.

Watching her walk straight toward it, the man seemed to want to warn her again, but in the end, he swallowed his words and said nothing.

Honey, who was that?the woman whispered.

I’m not sure, the man replied, but she definitely had supplies. He thought of Irishealthy glow, her clear skin, and the easy strength in her posture. He was certain.

Even her dogs had sleek, shiny coats.

At a time like this, no one looked like that without food to

spare.

Then, can we ask her for something to eat later?his wife asked nervously.

Daddy, I’m hungry!

Their daughter clung to his leg, whining softly.

The man’s gaze darkened. He raised a hand, and a faint green light bloomed in his palm. The potted plant by the door seemed to come alive, its branches twitching before a vine slid

toward his hand.

He gripped the vine and said heavily, Let’s just wait and see. We shouldn’t jump the gun.

Iris reached for the last villa.

Just as he had said, the place was a total mess. 3/6

The front door was shut tight, but blood was everywhere, on the ground, smeared across the door, and splashed through the garden.

Iris circled the villa once, getting a rough read on the layout and what might be inside.

Her strength was no joke now.

The metal security door didn’t stand a chance. One hard kick was all it took.

With a loud crash, the door flew open.

The instant it opened, Iris and her four dogs split to either side.

A hoarse roar followed.

Three starving zombies burst out.

Two were women, and one was a man. One of the female zombies must have been a great beauty in life. Even in death, she looked better than most. Her face was mostly intact, but one leg had been chewed down to bare, gleaming bone.

The other woman wasn’t so lucky.

Half her face had been torn away, exposing the implant in her nose, dangling grotesquely from ruined flesh. One eyeball 4/6 bulged outward, yellow maggots writhing in the bloody meat

around it.

The male zombie was still dressed in an elegant suit, but his chest had been ripped wide open. He clawed at the air, and the moment he caught the scent of fresh flesh, he lunged forward like a madman.

The instant the three zombies burst out, Iris swung her shovel and sent one flying.

The other two were swarmed by the four dogs and taken down in seconds.

They were elite military dogs and had already saved her lots of trouble more times than she could count.

Thud. Thud. Thud.

Three blows. Three zombies dropped on the spot.

It was fast, clean, and effortless. Killing zombies was child’s play.
