Chapter 41 Medicine
“I’m dressing your wounds. Hurry up!”
Only then did Logan realize he’d completely gotten the wrong idea.
The tips of his ears turned so red they might as well have been on fire, and this time he stripped much faster.
In just a few quick moves, he shrugged off his jacket.
He wanted to say he could do it himself and didn’t want to trouble Iris, but she already pinned him down and started treating his injuries.
They had all barely escaped a brutal attack, fighting their way out of a zombie swarm. They’d come frighteningly close to being wiped out, and every single one of them was covered in wounds.
Logan didn’t make a sound the entire time. Even when she peeled fabric off where it had stuck to his flesh and cut away bits of dead tissue, he didn’t so much as grunt.
There was no way it didn’t hurt.
That kind of pain–skin and muscle tearing, nerves screaming Twas enough to make anyone go numb.

But he kept it all swallowed down.
Tough guys didn’t cry out in pain.
He grit his teeth and endured it until Iris finished cleaning the wounds and injected a solution into his arm.
A cool sensation he’d never felt before rushed straight into his pain–numbed nerves.
He stared in disbelief as she applied the injection.
The pain vanished almost instantly, replaced by a deep, soothing warmth that spread over his wounds.
By the time Iris finished bandaging him up, he felt as if his injuries were already halfway healed.
He looked at her, utterly stunned.
“Alright, stop staring,” Iris said. “Go to the bathroom, grab a wet towel, and wipe yourself down. Don’t touch the wounds. Then change your clothes.”
She tossed him a clean set of combat gear.
Logan took the towel and clothes, emotions churning in his
chest.

He held them for a second in silence, then said solemnly, “Thank you, Iris.”
“Go on,” Iris said, waving him off toward the bathroom.
When Logan came out after changing his clothes, he saw Iris already cooking in the kitchen.
That was when he noticed the half bottle of First Aid Injector
she had left on the table earlier.
After hesitating for a moment, he said to her, “Iris, could I have what’s left of that medicine?”
Iris glanced at him over her shoulder while cooking and nodded casually. “Go ahead.”
Logan was deeply grateful. He went back inside to check on his former captain, saw that he was stable and clearly recovering, then picked up the First Aid Injector and headed outside.
*****
“Brett, hang in there.”
“You guys really shouldn’t waste medicine on me. We don’t have much left.” Brett lay pale against the wall outside the
bunker.

Several teammates were tending to the wound on his leg.
He had been badly hurt by Iris‘ traps, which only made his already battered body even worse.
He knew it himself. With no rescue coming and only a tiny amount of medical supplies left, using them on him was pointless.
“Save it for yourselves. This wound’s beyond saving with that stuff.”
“Nonsense. We’re not letting you die.”
“Even if it won’t work, we’re still using it!”
Just then, a voice came from behind them.
“Use this.”
Logan stepped out of the bunker in his new gear, holding the First Aid Injector he’d gotten from Iris.
The moment everyone saw him-
“Logan! How’s Damon?”
“Where’s Damon?”

“He’s resting inside. He’s out of the wood now.”
Hearing that, the gloom that had hung over them for days finally lifted.
Logan walked up to them and held up the injector. “Damon and I both used this. It works incredibly well.”
Brett glanced at the bottle and snorted. “That demon’s medicine? Hah. I don’t want it.”
“That’s my boss,” Logan said coldly. “Watch your mouth.” With that, he pressed Brett’s leg straight, fully exposing the wound.
When Brett saw how fiercely his teammate was defending Iris, he was already itching to snap back with a few sharp words. Before he could, an unfamiliar wave of coolness swept through his body.
He froze in shock.
Brett’s wound was deep. He’d already applied some ordinary hemostatic medicine, and the more he used, the worse it hurt.
But now, when Logan applied the medicine he’d brought to the wound, an indescribable chill washed away all the pain in an instant.
