Chapter 55 Power Unleashed

Logan stared in shock as the woman in tactical gear lifted one corner of the armored vehicle. She planted her feet and pushed hard, and with a deafening crunch of metal, she actually pulled the whole thing up.

Holy shit! She really just lifted it!

Right then, the Level–2 zombie burst out of the smoke again, its entire body still engulfed in flames. It let out a guttural, inhuman roar.

Iris finished lifting one side of the vehicle and jumped to the other. She needed more time.

Logan went full throttle to cover her, and flames poured from the cannon straight onto the Level–2 zombie. But this time something unexpected happened. The zombie wasn’t afraid of the fire anymore.

The flames only slowed it down temporarily, and it still charged at them at full speed. In the blink of an eye, it reached Iris‘ position.

Logan’s eyes narrowed sharply. The fireball shot past him, raising the temperature to over 120 degrees and incinerating everything in its path. When the flames cleared, there was nothing left. Just empty space.

His heart dropped into his stomach. They’d only known each other for such a short time. Everyone said she was cold and ruthless. But she would risk her life to protect her people.

Just when panic threatened to overwhelm him

completely, a slender figure leaped up from below the overpass. Logan saw her, and relief flooded through him so intensely his eyes stung.

At that moment, it felt like his heartbeat came back to

life.

Behind Iris, another massive ball of flames appeared, and the zombie’s roar echoed once more.

He got out of the truck and helped Iris lift their vehicle. back up, though honestly it was mostly Iris doing the heavy lifting. His strength really couldn’t match hers at all.

After fighting through this battle together, they’d basically risked their lives for each other. Trust was something that deepened through experiences like this, one encounter at a time.

Iris had always trusted Logan, but since this was

technically a fresh start, they needed to rebuild that bond from scratch. After today though, Logan clearly felt closer

to her than before.

“Iris, I honestly don’t know what’s going on with this.”

“I noticed about 10 days ago that I could sense water, just a tiny bit of it. I’ve mostly been using it to provide drinking water for the special ops team. I have no idea how I just did that back there.”

Logan told her everything about what had been happening to him, explaining every single detail of the changes he’d been experiencing.
