Outside, Logan had just finished making dinner and was carrying out a huge pot of fish tacos. The fresh fish smelled incredible, and the aroma was strong enough to carry for miles.

“Logan, have some water.”

Iris handed him a cup. Logan didn’t even look at it before drinking it down. But after swallowing, his eyes widened slightly. This water tasted sweeter than usual.

“This water’s really sweet.”

“Well, look who gave it to you.” Iris brushed off the comment casually and sat down at the table to wait for

her food.

Logan smiled and used his spatula to plate the fish, then brought it over to the table.

The square table already had a huge platter of roasted chicken on it. Combined with the aromatic fish tacos, it made for a nutritious and delicious meal.

He and Iris each had their own bowl, while the 16 dogs each got their own dish. Everyone happily dug into their food.

At that moment, Logan genuinely thought it would’ve been nice if his brothers had all stayed. Iris was someone worth following, and working for her really wasn’t bad at

all.

After they finished eating without leaving a single scrap, Logan went to wash the dishes while Iris played with the dogs for a bit and took inventory of the supplies they’d brought back today.

Besides what she’d stored in her space, there was one large delivery truck and the fuel tanker Logan had risked his life to bring back for her.

She parked the fuel tanker on the side of the base as backup storage and started unloading all the packages from the delivery truck to open them up like mystery boxes. This truck had over five hundred packages in it.

The whole load was from a major delivery service’s express shipping, so the quality of items inside turned out to be surprisingly high.

After opening quite a few packages, Iris had noticed some patterns.

Trucks with lots of bulk shipments usually contained a bunch of random junk that wasn’t very useful, but they had a higher proportion of food items, mostly cheaper stuff.

The more expensive delivery trucks had better items like brand–name computers, phones, cosmetics from before the apocalypse, and much better food.

From this particular truck, Iris found imported chocolates, canned caviar, whole smoked beef brisket and gourmet trail mix that used to cost thousands of dollars before the world ended, tons of fancy nut gift sets, and plenty of snacks from premium brands. About a fifth of it was expired or short–shelf–life food though, so she threw out everything that had gone bad.

The rest was clothing and household items. Most of the clothes were designer brands. She gave all the men’s clothes to Logan and had him store everything else in her warehouse.

opening most of the packages by now, and since there. was still some time left in the evening, she pulled Logan aside to reinforce his house.

She used steel plates and construction materials from the system to fortify the small building Logan lived in and even expanded it by adding another room.

Her base’s overall defensive capabilities immediately improved. Iris felt very satisfied. For the next while, her priority would be buying materials and upgrading the base.

The next morning, Iris woke up early and pushed open the bunker door to find Logan outside sharpening a blade. The knife scraped rhythmically across a large whetstone with steady strokes.

Each pass across the stone, water flowed over the blade to wash away metal shavings, and the edge grew sharper with every stroke.

The water came from Logan’s own power, so he didn’t need to prepare any separately. On the final pass, a stream of water washed over the entire blade and the knife instantly gave off a cold, lethal vibe.

Logan gripped the handle and swung it powerfully through the air. A piece of scrap wood was sliced clean through with a sharp whistle. Each cut surface was

perfectly smooth. If this blade hit a zombie, it would slice through them like cutting a watermelon.

“Already done?”

Logan sheathed the blade and handed it to Iris. “This knife is really good quality. The steel is solid and it’s super practical.”

“Nice work.” Iris praised him. “Next time I get a good blade, I’ll save one for you.”
