The Last Time I Cried Your Name novel Chapter 16

She finally saw his face clearly. His hair was wet, clinging to his forehead, partly covering those deep, black eyes.

Petty’s heart ached so much she could barely breathe. She tried her best not to cry, but her eyes wouldn’t listen, turning red anyway.

All the pain and anger from the past few days crashed over her. She choked back a sob and bit down on Franco’s shoulder, hard.

Even when the taste of blood filled her mouth, the pressure in her chest didn’t ease. Instead, Franco only held her tighter, his touch turning rougher, hungrier.

He supported her with one hand and used the other to grip the back of her neck, forcing her to look up so he could kiss her.

He brushed the water from her eyelashes, but when he looked into her eyes, all he saw was clear, simmering hate.

He let out a cold laugh, the sound sharp and icy. It sent a chill through Petty, making her shrink away without thinking.

His voice was rough, almost hoarse, like gravel scraping skin. “Anyone can hate me. Just not you.”

“You don’t get to hate me.”

Petty lost track of how many times he took her that night. When he finally carried her out of the bathroom, the sky outside was still dark. She watched from the bed as pale light slowly crept across the horizon.

He came to her again, tracing the corner of her eye with his thumb, the touch both gentle and raw.

The anger in her eyes was gone now, lost in a foggy daze. He smiled a little and stroked her cheek.

Water still rushed in the bathroom. Petty felt like she’d fallen asleep without meaning to.

When she sensed someone coming near, her body flinched on its own. She opened her eyes halfway. Franco sat on the edge of the bed, a towel wrapped around his waist, his abs still glistening with water and marked with fresh scratches.

He just sat there, maybe watching her, maybe smoking. Petty was too tired to care. Her eyes closed again, and she slipped into sleep.
