The Last Time I Cried Your Name novel Chapter 485

She had fallen asleep as close to her child as physically possible.

He approached slowly, crouching down in front of her before settling onto the floor beside her. He wrapped an arm around her shoulders, letting her lean against his side.

Time drifted by until Petty jolted awake with a violent gasp. "Baby!"

Her shoulders tensed instantly. Looking up, the raw, unfiltered panic in her eyes reflected back at Franco. He frowned slightly, pulling her closer.

"The baby is fine. He's just resting."

His deep, grounding voice slowly soothed the erratic pounding of Petty's heart, pulling her away from the lingering terror of her nightmare.

Petty glanced at the digital clock on the wall. She had been asleep for three hours.

Then, she looked down at the arm Franco had draped over her shoulder.

How had he known she was here?

And surprisingly, he hadn't used the opportunity to carry her back to her room while she was unconscious.

Quietly, she tried to pry his hand away, speaking in a flat tone. "I'm going back to my room."

But Franco refused to let go. Instead, he slid his other arm under her legs and effortlessly lifted her off the floor.

Feeling her silent resistance, Franco only tightened his hold. "I'll take you back," he murmured.

When she chose to sleep here, he had simply sat guard beside her, respecting her boundaries.

But now that she wanted to go back to her room, he refused to let her walk alone.

Despite his own injuries, Franco's steps were incredibly steady, carrying her without a single jar or sway.

The walk back was shrouded in silence.
