Franco's gaze never left her face. "Scroll up."
Petty did as he instructed, her thumb swiping down to scroll up through the album. She swiped over a dozen times, and as far as she could see, the screen was still completely flooded with photos and videos of her.
Just as a frown began to form on her face, a distinctively masculine hand—the back of it littered with various cuts and scratches—reached over. His fingertips swiped rapidly across the screen twice.
The screen stopped perfectly on the thumbnail of Abacus's video.
Franco looked at her. "So impatient."
Petty didn't argue. She simply let him guide her by the shoulder to sit on the sofa. She watched the video in silence while he picked up a stack of documents from the coffee table and began flipping through them.
Galen suddenly felt like a massive third wheel. He shot Jay a look, and the two men silently exited the room one after the other. Fearing Petty might get annoyed and bolt if they closed the door, they had the mutual sense to leave it wide open.
As soon as Jay stepped out, he spotted Amy standing just outside Petty's door. The moment she saw him, she froze, her face instantly dropping into a scowl as she rolled her eyes lazily and marched right into Petty's room.
Jay withdrew his gaze.
Last night, when he'd explicitly told her they weren't the same kind of people, she had given him that exact same lazy eye-roll and stomped upstairs without a word.
Galen noticed the bizarre interaction and a smirk spread across his face. He pointed in Amy's direction and asked Jay, "A fling?"
Jay's cold face betrayed absolutely nothing. "No wonder the boss tells you to shut up. If you don't know how to speak, just don't."
Years ago, Franco had saved his life at the border, and Jay had stayed by his side ever since. But his absolute loyalty belonged solely to Franco and the woman Franco loved. He didn't even take orders from the old Mrs. White when she was alive, let alone care about giving anyone else face.
Galen already knew exactly how Jay operated, so he wasn't offended in the slightest. Instead, he just laughed and teased, "Fair enough. With a personality colder and harder than Franco's, it'd be a miracle if any girl actually liked you. You deserve to die single!"
Inside the hospital room, Amy marched straight into the bathroom, slammed the door behind her, and practically threw herself at the mirror to check if she looked a mess.
Okay. Okay, she was fine.
