Galen had basically practically lived at the hospital these past few days. He refused to miss his nephew's crucial moments.
He was eating breakfast with Franco when Jay walked in. "Boss, Ms. Petty is here to see you."
Galen looked up, shocked. "Did I hear that right?"
Was the sun rising in the west today? Petty was actually seeking Franco out on her own?
Jay completely ignored him, simply stepping aside so they could see Petty standing at the door. She hadn't stepped inside.
"Ms. P—"
Before Galen could even get the words out, Franco's legs were already moving faster than anyone's mouth. By the time Galen tried to invite her in, Franco was out of his chair and striding toward the door.
"Why are you up so early?" he asked, coming to a stop in front of her.
There were faint, dark shadows under her eyes; anyone could tell at a glance that she hadn't slept well.
She had finally gone to sleep in the middle of the night, and it had only been six hours. How could she possibly be well-rested?
Petty kept her tone flat. "I came for the videos of Abacus."
The man's brow furrowed slightly. He hadn't overthought her arrival—he knew exactly why she was here. But the fact that she didn't even bother with pleasantries and just demanded it straight out made his chest feel suffocatingly tight.
"I distinctly said you needed a full ten hours of sleep before I'd let you watch them," Franco said, his attitude seemingly unyielding, but inwardly, he was completely at her mercy.
Petty had clearly anticipated his pushback and replied without missing a beat, "I can add my afternoon nap time to the total."
Franco's somber gaze softened. She was sick, exhausted, and yet she still had the energy to haggle with him.
Galen watched their little back-and-forth from the table, muttering internally.
Did these two sneak off for an illicit rendezvous last night or something?
Why was their banter suddenly bordering on flirtatious?
They didn't act like a divorced couple at all... Oh, right, their marriage certificate had been forged. There was no divorce, just a breakup.
Franco could have easily unlocked the phone himself before handing it over, but no, he deliberately took the long route just to slip in a romantic confession.
Since when was the boss this painfully smooth?
Using her birthday as his lock screen passcode... Franco really was just a lovesick teenager at heart.
Galen looked down, flipping his own phone in his hand, and casually typed in xx0627.
It was the anniversary of the very first time he and Livia had slept together.
He wouldn't forget that date in his next lifetime.
Petty punched her birthday into the screen, and the phone unlocked.
Franco's home screen was starkly clean and simple. Whatever the factory default settings were, that was exactly what his phone looked like.
She tapped into the photo album, expecting to find the videos of Abacus immediately, only to be hit with a wall of photos and videos of herself.
